does anyone know of a good web site or someplace to check out on the web for help with wiring a jeep. We are stuck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

1. Is there any wiring in it now?
A CJ5 is pretty rudimentary--if you have a basic understanding of auto electrics you can wire it pretty much any way you want and it will work.

If you don't wanna do that, get a Chilton's or Haynes and use the wiring diagram contained therein.

Just be glad it isn't a Subaru--there are 100 wires in the harness for the engine. People who have watercooled VW Vanagons love the Subaru engine because the engine is almost identical to the one that came in the van, except that it's designed correctly. But when someone writes a Web page describing how to put this engine in the Vanagon, the phrase "be sure to get the wiring harness when you take the engine because if you don't you will never get the engine in" is always there.

3. Hehe...
Funny you should mention that, been considering the conversion on my 87 syncro. Been told there's a twin turbo boxer six in the WRX. Got one?

2. Just buy a wiring kit
A little more than just wire, but worth the money.

4. That is what we are dealing with
we bought a new wiring harness. That is what we are dealing with now. It ran before we redid the wiring now it turns over but doesn't start

5. Well then, that narrows things down a bit
If the engine is turning over, and the lights, horn and other secondary stuff is working, then you've got problems somewhere in either your fuel system or ignition system. Easy check on your ignition system is to take out a plug, ground out the plug(please observe the gas fume precautions with this, don't want to blow up), crank the car and see if you are getting a spark. If so, then the problem is somewhere in the fuel system most likely, check to see if your timing is correct to make sure.

Fuel problems can be due to clogged filters, uncharged rails(if you have fuel injection), or improper mixture(if you have a carb). Also check your compression, that could be a huge problem.

If your spark plug test doesn't spark up, check out your timing, points, distributor, rotor, plug wires, coil, and plugs.

You can get a good wiring schematic from either a CJ5 shop manual(buy on through Hemmings Motor News, among others), or a Chiltons. Check your library, they might carry the Chiltons you need(ours does). If you are going to be doing a lot of DIY on this car, I would get the official Jeep shop manual. Chilton tends to skimp on some issues, like specs and finer detail.

Good luck, and many miles of happy motoring.
