I GOT A JOB! And a damned good one, too!
As most of you know, I was laid off a few months ago and have gone through a very tough and frustrating time with seemingly no luck finding another job despite my education and background.

Well, today I got a call from a company that had asked me to go through a second round of interviews last week; they asked if I was still interested in the position and then offered me the job!!!!! The salary is twice what I was making before and WAAAAAAAAYYYYYY more than I've ever made in my life!!!!!!!! They have GREAT benefits, too, and I'll be able to roll over my 401(k) right away. It's a damn good company too as far as treatment of workers is concerned.

I still can't believe my luck after nothing but bad luck and bad news and financial difficulties these past few months!!!!! For anyone going through the same thing, hang in there because it really WILL get better, take it from me! And for those of you who gave me encouragement and kept my spirits up, THANK YOU!!!!! I've gotta get up real early tomorrow, but I'm almost too excited to sleep!!! I'm back in the world again and I can't wait to start working very hard for this company!!!

5. Well, things were starting
to get really desperate, ya know! But I just kept working at the job search and praying every day (I know many of you don't believe in prayer and that's okay, but I'm a Christian and I really do believe in it); just when I thought things couldn't get any worse good things start happening again!

9. WOO-HOO!
I know how excited you are because my husband has been unemployed for going on a year and he interviewed at a company yesterday and they called him today and asked him to come back tomorrow because they want to show him around and have him meet some people. He has not been offered the job but damn!, I think it is probable they will offer it to him tomorrow! It is for a good company, good benefits, a gym on the premises for employees and their spouses, great vacation, the whole package.

I am sooooo excited for you because I feel the same excitement!

Has anybody ever heard of being called back to be shown around and meet people and not get the job offered? The only thing my husband can think of is they might put him a room with the (IT)servers and see what he knows????? I am excited but I don't know if it is real yet!

39. Congrats
That is really good news. BTW--we often call folks in to meet the rest of the employess before making a job offer. We're checking that they aren't condescending to support staff, they don't start sexually harrassing someone, or make racial jokes. Just checking to make sure others feel comfortable with the person and are they as good to those who are not their supervisors as they were to us. Good luck tomorrow.

26. LOL!
I have NO intention of doing that, believe me. Company property and company time are for WORK, not personal stuff. It's very wrong to do that at work unless you're on a lunch break. And remember, companies can monitor your computer usage and they know what you do when. That's only fair, since it's their property and time, and you're supposed to be working during work time. Okay, lecture over, lol!

I am SOO anxious to get started!!!!!

I'm still in high school, and the only reason I haven't pursued a job is so that I wouldn't take away a potential job opportunity from someone who really needed it to get through their life day-by-day, rather than to blow it on movies and poker.

For people down on their luck with jobs, remember you only need to get one job (well if that's what you are aiming for). Sometimes the job that fits you best does not come up until a bit later and you would have been less happy if you had gotten one of the earlier ones that you applied to.

60. That's certainly true,
I was at my lowest point ever, in total desperation and frustration, when this happened. And looking back, a couple of the jobs I interviewed for that I wished I had gotten would not have been as good and secure, nor have paid near as much, as this job.

62. THANK YOU ALL for
your congrats and good wishes, it really means a lot, especially since you've been with me through all the shit I've had to wade through these past few months. To those still looking and getting desperate and discouraged like I was just a few short days ago, DON'T GIVE UP! Do NOT give up! Take it from someone who's been there and who knows exactly what you're dealing with, just keep plugging away at it, being proactive in your job search, doing it full-time (which you pretty much HAVE to do for any successful job search), and DON'T GIVE UP!!!

I just got home from my first day, and I am so PSYCHED! I've got weeks of training to go through, but I know it's a great job and everything'll be just fine!

69. Thanks, and yes, I remember that thread!
Suffice it to say that, when I get my first paycheck in a couple of weeks, my eyes will bug out and I'll have to pick my jaw up off the floor. And the best thing is that it pays so much better than many of the decent-paying jobs that I had been interviewing for but didn't get.

I have to say, though, that, once again, I had no luck at all with any of the legal temp agencies, including the ones we'd talked about. I had a few interviews through them, but never got anything and never even got any interviews from some of the others. And that's been the experience of a lot of other people I know, too. I hope to God I am NEVER in the unemployment boat again, but if I ever am, God forbid, I don't think I'll bother with the agencies anymore.

75. Yay you !!!! Good to hear great news in times of stress -
as a fellow laid-off-er (ex-Halliburton's legal team --yikes! - and please - no flames) I can fully understand and sympathize with your previous plight. Hopefully my own situation will improve as well. But it is always good to hear a deserving person gets a great break. Toasts!!

78. Halliburton's legal team?
WHOA! The shit you must have had to deal with, lol! And you came out smelling like roses, too. Here's hoping you'll get your break soon!

77. I sure hope
so, too, Jan! I know there are far too many suffering DUers right now and just a few days ago I was one of them. I hope the predictions of a job market recovery will come true.

84. This is great news
You should be very happy. I know it makes me feel good to see people getting jobs and starting to get back on track in their career.

I know so many people in the last few years who have been laid off and they had to settle for a second rate job.

This is awesome that you clearly got a great job. Good money, benefits.

I wish you the best of luck!

86. Thanks!
I feel like I've just stepped into an air-conditioned palace after wondering in the hot desert for three months, if that makes any sense!
