A little background info.

1. I'm working swing shift the next few days, so I not a real happy camper when some asshole calls at 9am.

2. The little runt had the wrong number.


Me: (in groggy 'who the fuck is this voice') : Hulllloooo?

Dork: Ron? (no one calls me 'Ron')

Me: What?

Dork: Is this Ron Marshall?

Me: Who IS this?

Dork: Hey man, it's Mark? (he's now using his 'buddy-buddy' voice that sounds like he's trying out for a radio DJ gig)

Me: You have the wrong number.

Dork: Do you know how to reach him? Ronald K. Marshall?

Me: That's my name, but you have the wrong number. Who the hell is this?

Dork: Well, your Cross Country VISA card has been refered to me ....

Me: I don't HAVE a Cross Country VISA nor have I ever had any credit in my birthname.

Dork: Well can you verify the last 4 of your social for me?

Me (now WIDE awake and getting into full smart ass mode): Oh yeah, right. There is no way in hell I'm giving that to you.

Dork (now losing the 'buddy-buddy'): Well how about the first 3?

Me: Oh please, chile. I work for a bank don't give me that shit. Have have the WRONG number and the WRONG person.

Dork: Well WE have plenty of ways to find numbers.

Me: Well, then I guess you best let your fingers do some walkin' cuz you got the wrong number ...... asshole!

5. my satisfying phone experience

I got called for a commercial poll (not a political poll, which I would eagerly respond to). This was a "what kind of beer do you like?" kind of thing.

I said: "I don't respond to marketing polls"

pollster: "what? Why not?"

Me: "because that information is worth money"

then I hung up. I can't wait 'till the next one.

13. He may have been phishing...

..that's a pretty common scam, saying that you rep a bank or a CC company, and try to get people to give out id theft info such as an SSN.

Since you don't have the CC he was referring to, you may want to one of two things. Get a phone log, and see where the number he called from traces to, and if it seems strange, forward the info to the police. Also you may want to run a credit report to see if you do not indeed have the card he was talking about (stranger things have happened, I had a card on my credit report by accident).

I've known victims of ID theft, it's pretty serious.

You know, somebody got a credit card in his name and maxed it out and then didn't make the payments.
