Gift for Wedding that won't last |
|
I've been invited to a bridal shower for a woman I am almost certain will not get married or the marriage will end quickly.
I really don't want to spend a lot of money on this chick but I feel I need to get her something small out of good etiquette.
Any suggestions?

Find out where she's registered and get her a couple of towels and a bath mat or something. I hate bridal showers - and I've been to several that are like this one (where people got divorced within a year).

8. Luckily, she's registered at Target. |
|
So I can at least get something reasonably priced.
Good thing it isn't some place like Williams Sonoma.

You can't be serious. It's a joke, right? Good Lord, no wonder it won't last. Oh well, at least Target's a step above WallMart. Just go to the Dollar Store, they got plenty stuff.

17. I think this is my fifth bridal shower and |
|
all of the brides have registered at Target.
Some also register at a more expensive store (like a department store or something) but Target seems to be a standard place to register nowadays.

My wife and I registered at Target and we're happily married. Not everyone's families can afford the upscale dept. stores. Not to mention the hassle of getting to said stores when your failies are very spread out.

12. I hate bridal showers too, |
|
I know as a woman I'm supposed to go gaga over them but I sure as hell DON'T! I don't like shopping, either, which has prompted more than one friend/family member to wonder if I'm really a woman, lol! I particularly hate those stupid fucking games they have you play, like "how many words can you make out of the guest of honor's new married name", shit like that. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I've never been married myself, who knows. But even as a teenager I hated them, so probably not.
And I ESPECIALLY hate it when I'm invited, and expected to attend, a bridal shower where I'm NOT invited to the wedding, which I've always thought was incredibly rude and ill-mannered. It's like "you're not good enough to be at our wedding, but we still want any goodies we can get out of you and still expect you to spend money on us", GRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!! That's happened more than a few times, and everyone I know agrees with me that it's incredibly rude and nasty. If I'm not invited to the wedding, then I ain't going to the bridal shower, it's that simple.
Okay, rant/lecture over, and here's what I say to do: Go to Target, pick out the cheapest thing on the list, then find something even cheaper! That should work.

This is the fourth or fifth bridal shower I have attended in my lifetime and the games are definitely the worst!
At one shower, we all had attach a clothespin to our clothes and every time someone caught somebody else crossing their legs, they got the clothespin. Whoever had the most clothespins attached to their person won. That was by far the dumbest thing I ever participated in.

You have GOT to be kidding me! Of all the stupid, dumb, absurd, ridiculous, ludicrous bridal shower games I've ever heard of and/or been forced to participate in, that has got to be the stupidest, dumbest, most absurd and ridiculous I have EVER heard of! Who the hell comes up with this shit, anyway?

19. Worst shower game ever: "Purse points." |
|
OK, everyone empty your purses. (If your host has any decorum, she'll say "go through your purses" instead.)
Points are as follows: 1 point per receipt 1 point per key 2 points per credit card 3 points per photo 4 points per lipstick (etc.)
...and the kickers: 10 points per tampon/sanitary napkin 20 points per condom 30 points per "marital aid" (because we all carry them around all of the time, and if I did I'd admit it to my co-workers :eyes:)
She who has the most points wins. unless she pulled out a marital aid and her mother is there. Then, she just dies slowly.

30 points for a "marital aid"--what criteria would they use I wonder.
I have a bottle of scented lotion in my purse which could conceiveably be used for naughty purposes--does that count? LOL.

6. That's an Interesting Idea... |
|
No, I will probably just go with the towel idea that a couple of people mentioned.
I just hate having to spend money at all on her.
I wish her family would tell her what everyone is thinking--that this marriage is doomed. I don't feel it's my place since I'm just a co-worker.
<sigh>
Oh' well. Such is life.

It will last as long as the Wedding Night lasts and they won't be left fighting over it when they split up.

That's within my price range. Although, I think now it runs $3 a bottle.
Anyone been to Trader Joe's and checked out the price of Two Buck Chuck?

You can wrap it in a nice pretty wine gift bag that probably costs more then the wine or champagne does.

24. 1'st Year Anniversary is "Paper" |
|
Since they won't be married for over a year give them an early wedding/anniversary gift early and make it paper.
Like someone suggested "Paper Plates" with matching cups, napkins, tablecloth and plastic silverware. If you go to the bargain bin at the store you could get the whole works for around $2.00 tops.
