Encouraging photos from "Bush Country" (CO) - lots of pics
So let me set the stage a bit. :)

I live in a town so small (how small was it?) that we have to go to the next town over to see a parade on the 4th of July --
Ouray, Colorado.

It's the kind of small-town parade with this kind of thing:

And this cute kid on stilts:

And this guy. I'm not sure what his deal was, but it was a cool bike:

McGruff the crime dog... I think he was running for County Assessor:

And I have no freakin' idea what was going on here, but
those flamingos seem to have a relationship of some kind:

Anyhow. I digress. You get the idea. ;)

So our county's Democrats decided to make an appearance
at the parade for the first time in like a decade. And they
came out in FORCE!

...That's our county party chairman on the right, and in the
middle is the cool lady that owns the little leftist bookstore
in my town.

This big ol' float, with the correct quote that got ruined
into "my country, right or wrong":

And they kept coming...

...and coming!

Cute kid, huh? Bear in mind there are as many people
walking for the Dems as live in my little town a few
miles over.

And the Republicans?

...Well, they made it too:

:D

I'm kidding, those aren't the Repubs. They're triplets that
apparently come from around here, and for some reason
ride in the parade. I don't understand, but whatever....

Here's the Repub float:

...Needless to say they were outnumbered:

...And YES, it does say "WIN ONE FOR THE GIPPER". :eyes:

The man next to me in the crowd said "Wow, they're running
Reagan against Kerry? Interesting strategy." :)

So next we had the waterfights. They're cool... old tradition
out here:

The target being drenched in this pic is a kid on the roof with
his friends who threw a water balloon.... Not the best move
tactically, but I gotta hand it to the cajones it takes to throw
a water balloon at a man holding a firehose:

Then there was the father-daughter division:

...And finally, they got out the BIG hose and the pros went at it:

It was SO much water. These guys went at it for about
fifteen minutes, and were pretty messed up after.
But heroic battle like you've never seen, my friends:

Anyhow, I've digressed yet again. The point of all this is
that it felt amazing seeing all these Democrats in a little
backwater town in Colorado.

It felt like a revolution. :)

5. I almost forgot!
...I walked past a guy wearing a button that almost made me keel over laughing.

It said "Bush n Spector, 2004" :D

Maybe an old joke, but new to me!

4. Beautiful country where you live
I like small towns.

About the lady who runs the liberal bookstore. How does she stay in business in a small, Republican town?

8. Impressive water!
CAlifornia is like living on Arrakis, the desert planet in "Dune".

We bottle out tears and sell it to Japan.

9. Is that a US Navy Officer standing on that Republican float?
I'm pretty sure that it is in violation of the uniform code to appear at political activities in uniform.

10. Good catch, and you're RIGHT
Also, look behind him. Looks like Army Class A's to me. A lot of balls these fuckers have. However, they may not be active duty military anymore. In which case, nothing anyone can do.

12. Interesting they chose to be on that float...
At the front of the parade were all the county vets. Maybe these were active folks.

14. Looks great, actually
Kind of a monument to the King family's excess. :) Now a gazillion-dollar-a-night stay. The restaurant is pretty good, but at the price point (think Telluride) I expected it to be a lot better.

15. Damn mountain people wasting all that water
And us burb' folk down on the flat lands in the Denver area can only water twice a week for 15 minutes. ;)

Don't get up in the mountains as much as we'd like. The traffic has gotten obscene. Dude on radio today made joke about how the last 3 cars coming out of the mountains for the 4th finally got back to Denver today. (HUGE traffic jams coming down the hill....)

Incredible showing of numbers from the "commie-liberal" Democrats for such a small area. Me thinks bush* should keep the BBQ grill clean down in Crawford because he's going to using it a lot in the coming years....

17. You don't mess with some traditions...
I'm pretty sure these waterfights went on during the drought and wildfires in 2002.
