Okay. Amnesty International has reported it, UNICEF has
reported it, now German network news has done an 8min piece on it, (see http://www.swr.de/report/archiv/sendungen/040705/02/04070502.ram )

so, when will we be hit with this bombshell? The link above quotes reports and has at least one American Sgt who is seeking whistleblower protection. Is this what the assholes in the Senate meant about "more serious allegations" coming down the road from Abu Ghraib?

1. Our "media" is get more infuriating by the day!
They just want Americans to believe that war is like creating another Disney world in Iraq.

And it works! That's the sickest part.

7. are the children STILL imprisoned or have they now been released?
If still there, then Seymour Hersh really needs to take a good look at himself in the mirror. I know he's done a lot of good so far, but there's no excuse for holding anything back anymore, not in this instance. I've heard that he's still sitting on some pretty explosive stuff.

8. Good Question...no one seems to know whether they are still being held
...and how many, under what conditions and also where the ones are that may have been held and released....

How can any Americans look at themselves in the mirror after knowing this and then say "I support the President and the War on Iraq"...

9. Don't judge Hersh so harshly
He's not 'sitting' on anything. The information is there. The freaking Congress knows about it. Any reporter could follow up on it--the suggestion that Hersh is hiding something is unfair. I have faith that he'll do the dirty deed if he has to.

My Lai AND Abu Ghraib? Hersh has done more than his duty as a journalist and an American.

11. Don't forget this quote from Perle about him...
Edited on Wed Jul-07-04 02:06 AM by WannaJumpMyScooter
“Sy Hersh is the closest thing American journalism has to a terrorist, frankly.” 3/10/04 CNN via Wolfe Blitzer (naturally!)

I imagine he does not have the second attribution or third attribution in some cases he needs to run the story, or he certainly would.

We on the internet frequently forget that there are still some journalists left in the world who actually follow journalistic rules.

15. my understanding was the the Pentagon had the evidence
and the Congress was only allowed to briefly examine it, but not take custody of it. I also thought that Hersh had independently acquired horrific videos and photos depicting the abuse of children. My post acknowledged Hersh's important service to the country as a journalist, for which he deserves praise and respect. But since the Congress isn't apparently interested in confronting the military on this issue it's up to a journalist like Hersh to do something. If I were in his position, I wouldn't be able to eat, sleep, or go about my business, IF (and that's if) I knew children still to be incarcerated and being abused. In that case, I wouldn't let journalistic rules get in the way. If I'm mistaken about Hersh having separate evidence of his own then it's my unfortunate error. However, I had read somewhere that he still had evidence he was considering producing at a later time. I understand that some of the children involved are as young as 12 years old.

10. Well..
I'm sure excuses will be made later.. "But.. but.. but.. we're better than Saddam! Look over there"

I hope it's not true, but if it is, i'd prefer some freaking accountibility and for a fire to be put to somebody's behind

13. We're screwed
Maybe CBC will publicize this...or maybe NPR will say something. Regardless, we are screwed. We aren't going to get sympathy from the rest of the world if the terraists strike the US in retribution for all these damn atrocities....

14. The Terrorists will hit us and no one will care....
....America will be seen as a country run and led by those that would actually consider by-passing the "quaint" geneva conventions on prisoner abuse and torture and even abuse and imprison children....

Unbelievable...how could we have come to this?

16. I've..
thought one of the ways to "win" (if possible) is to reduce the credibility of the terrorists among the people in that region.

But, it's hard to beat an enemy when you keep giving them 'ammo' (stuff) to tell their followers.
