Peterson Denied Having Lover, Calif. Court Told

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (Reuters) - Accused wife murderer Scott Peterson (news - web sites) denied having a girlfriend when he was interrogated by police on Christmas 2002 -- the day after his wife Laci vanished from their Modesto, California, home, an investigator testified on Tuesday.


The investigator, Douglas K. Mansfield of the California Department of Justice (news - web sites), testified that he asked Peterson point-blank whether he or Laci had a lover on the side.


"I asked him if there was any problems between them, which he said there was not, and if there were any third parties involved, to which he said there were no third parties involved, there was no other person involved with him or his wife," Mansfield said.

Mansfield said his initial interview with Peterson was a routine part of missing persons cases.


"I wasn't looking at him as a suspect, I was looking at him as the husband of a missing person," Mansfield said.

Uh even I know that the most likely suspects are family members and people familiar with the victim. I agree they are really dropping the ball on this one-I was pretty sure he did it but now....not so much.
