Anyone here speak Russian?
I'll be traveling there soon and I would like to be able to say something like " I don't support the President" or "Proud of America but ashamed of Bush". Anyone been to Russia recently? If so what is the general attitude there to Americans?

4. Depends upon where you go
I was in Moscow (Moskva) recently, and found it to be much like New York/London/Paris in terms of prices, international influence, and their views of Americans. Not really that different. BTW, remember that Russian is doing battle with "Islamic Terrorists", just like us. Go soon and try to notice what little is left of the old Communist regime, it is almost gone.

11. I've spent a bit of time there....

I don't think you'll have problems being an American -- assuming your caucasian. Russians are VERY racist by and large. If you want to say "I don't like Bush" --

Mne ne nravitsya Bush.

12. Here's one:
"Izvenitye, shto moi prezidyent idiyot -- ya ne golosoval za nego."

Translation:

"I'm sorry my president is an idiot. I didn't vote for him."

If you're female, change "golosoval" to "golosovala".

The last word, "nego", is actually pronounced "nyeevo".

13. "Nasdarovia" is a toast. Something like "cheers"
I should know more as I'm half Russian. My mother, though she was born in the US, had to learn to speak English as my grandparents only spoke Russian. I would ask her how to say that thing about Shrub but we have an agreement not to discuss politics. Unfortunately my folks are disciples of Faux news. Have a great time!
