Whoa!! Pink Floyd is mentioned in the Bible!! In the book of Revolutions
Got this from the "Prog Rock is Of the Devil" thread, in the discussions area of the website referenced.

This is a note from a visitor to the site:

Did you know that Pink Floyd are mentioned in the bible? It is in the book of revolutions, chapter 5, verses 12-15: 'And he gave unto the world a mighty clap of thunder and thus cameth the guitar. And Dave did picketh up the guitar and gave it an almighty strike declaring "God gaveth the guitar and the word of God shall speaketh through thy plectrum, go forth and spread the word"'

I knew it! I just KNEW Pink Floyd is the only truly Biblical rock band!

http://htmlgear.tripod.com/guest/control.guest?u=evilprogressive (it's the last post - interesting to see the number of comments from what I assume are legitimate, serious Christian prog-rockers, lambasting this guy (the guy who says prog rock is Satanic) for his ignorance)

2. Then there's this passage:

The lord is my shepherd, I shall not want
He makes me down to lie
Through pastures green he leadeth me the silent waters by.
With bright knives he releaseth my soul.
He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places.
He converteth me to lamb cutlets,
For lo, he hath great power, and great hunger.
When cometh the day we lowly ones,
Through quiet reflection, and great dedication
Master the art of karate,
Lo, we shall rise up,
And then we’ll make the bugger’s eyes water.

3. There is no Book of Revolutions
The Book of Revelation, chapter 5, doesn't say that. Of course, this is understandable as the guitar isn't mentioned in historical work till the 14th century. This must be a joke.

7. Well, duh
I don't think anyone took the "Book of Revolutions" and the "Guitar of Dave" as a serious Biblical commentary.

8. True enough. If the Bible had mentioned Pink Floyd....
..it certainly would have mentioned the blasphemy of Gilmour using the name to sell his solo albums after the band broke up in 1983.

17. On The Turning Away.....
....is NOT blasphemy!! :P

On the turning away
From the pale and downtrodden
And the words they say
Which we won’t understand
Don’t accept that what’s happening
Is just a case of others’ suffering
Or you’ll find that you’re joining in
The turning away

It’s a sin that somehow
Light is changing to shadow
And casting it’s shroud
Over all we have known
Unaware how the ranks have grown
Driven on by a heart of stone
We could find that we’re all alone
In the dream of the proud

On the wings of the night
As the daytime is stirring
Where the speechless unite
In a silent accord
Using words you will find are strange
And mesmerized as they light the flame
Feel the new wind of change
On the wings of the night

No more turning away
From the weak and the weary
No more turning away
From the coldness inside
Just a world that we all must share
It’s not enough just to stand and stare
Is it only a dream that there’ll be
No more turning away?

25. And I thought Division Bell was very much Floydian
Momentary Lapse read more like a Gilmour solo album, but Division Bell, to me, sounded very much like Pink Floyd.

Dogs of War - great!

12. I've heard more far out theories than that before.
Biblical prophecy has been interpreted to say that Clinton, Bush, Bill Gates, Hitler, and just about any other important person is the anti-Christ. Also, the internet, airplane, and microchip were supposedly mentioned in the Bible, in vague terms of course. Without having read the entire Bible or knowing the history of the guitar, how would I know there is no reference to a guitar in it? The parent poster thought these guys were sincere, so I looked around to make sure that they were full of it.

14. No, I was the parent poster
and no, I didn't take the propehcy seriously. It was a *joke*. :P

No harm done, though. And yes, you are right that a lot of wackos have seen prophecies of a lot weird things, all bizarre and wrong. So there is always the chance that someone, somewhere, in all sincerity, could possibly find Floyd mentioned in the Bible. Though the kinds of wackos who find prophecies in the Bible for specific people and events tend to think rock is of the devil, so wouldn't find any references to rock musicians, artists, etc. Except, of course, to say they are the "predicted re-embodiment of Satan", which wouldn't surprise me.

And mind, these are the wackos who are in charge of our government right now. That ought to scare you quite a bit!

I'm glad you're a leftistagitator. The worlds need more of you (and us).

Cheers! :toast:

21. Ha, I should pay more attention!
I live down here in Texas, so forgive me if my sense of humor on Bible prophecy has been worn out. You'd be amazed at how much weird stuff you hear down here. Back at you :toast:.

But if you think they're whackos at the national level, it's only because you haven't seen them at the state level yet. Have a look at the Texas GOP platform. Bare in mind these people own the political machinery of my state.

15. Except Gilmour was not the Creator of Pink Floyd
He was the replacement when one of the original Creators lost his marbles.

So if any Biblical analogy would be appropriate, Gilmour would be more like St. Paul, with Roger Waters as St. Peter. And Syd descended into madness as opposed to ascended to the Father, but he probably didn't know the difference.

Just saying that God the Creator and Gilmour the Musician are simply the two different aspects of the same God.
