I want to thank DU and all DUers!
I just want to thank you all for making the past few weeks more bearable! In case you are wondering what I do all day, I have two browser windows and MS Word open at all times: One browser for DU; one browser for job postings; and my cover letter. I have spent each day faxing out resumes (ten so far this morning!), and before finding DU, I had become so depressed at the lack of responses to my constant queries that I had almost become ready to just quit. Thanks to all of you, however, I now have some support, a broader perspective, and I'm back up and pounding the virtual pavement! I'd kiss you if the DU Meetup coordinators hadn't made me promise that I wouldn't! (kidding)

Mods, I promise, as soon as I have a gig, I'm donating. I owe ya!

3. How to contribute
I've been stone broke since November 2001; since I had no money to spare, I finally decided that I could best contribute by signing up as a moderator. It's been rewarding and gave me a lot more insight to how online communities operate -- even though I've also done sysop work on BBSes during the pre-Internet era.

I know how frustrating unemployment in the Bush Banana Republic can be. At last count, I've gone after over 1100 positions in the past 30-odd months. Poverty makes contributing cash impossible.

But there's all sorts of things you can do to contribute that don't involve money. "Sweat equity" is still vital to American freedom, and this summer, America will need every drop of sweat we can give her.

It's just an extention of "Don't Mourn -- Organize!"
