14. hey that's where I was born too.
Only spent a few years there before moving to Vancouver but still say Trawna. My dad always called it Hogtown.

23. or Cabbagetown!
Being Hamiltonian, I had Toronto-hatred inculcated from birth. It's a cultural thing.

But after seeing Mike Harris kicking the city around, I came to a new understanding -- and I now have no problem applauding Jack Layton (a former Toronto city councillor, now NDP leader).

9. Being at the centre of the universe gives Torontonians every
right to be stuck up. Riff raff from the coast should bow down before us and kiss our toes.

15. My mom used to say it should be spelled...
"Kelgry" to reflect the pronunciation. Definitely "Calgary" has two syllables.

I was born in Edmonton and now live in London, ON, which is far enough away from Toronto to get the semi-bastardized "To-ronna" pronunciation, but I still keep my two-syllable "Kelgry."

The one that throws me is the small town called "Orono," which is pronounced "ORE-no." :)

28. other: t ' - RAHN - toe - I'm from Los Angeles
The first syllable represents a schwa (sp?)

I wouldn't say RAWN for the middle syllable, nor RON, but RAHN - and yes, those are three different pronunciations to me. (RON and RAHN are pretty close, though)

And yes I live here, yes I grew up here.

I was gone for 25 years and the myth that we pronounce it "Trawna" always galled me.
