Scary how this song exemplifies what is going on now.
The Rolling Stones Gimme Shelter lyrics
(M. Jagger/K. Richards)
Oh, a storm is threat'ning
My very life today
If I don't get some shelter
Oh yeah, I'm gonna fade away
War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
Ooh, see the fire is sweepin'
Our very street today
Burns like a red coal carpet
Mad bull lost its way
War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
Rape, murder!
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
Rape, murder!
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
Rape, murder!
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
The floods is threat'ning
My very life today
Gimme, gimme shelter
Or I'm gonna fade away
War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
I tell you love, sister, it's just a kiss away
It's just a kiss away
It's just a kiss away
It's just a kiss away
It's just a kiss away
Kiss away, kiss away
Let it Bleed, The Rolling Stones, 1969

This is my favorite song of theirs. One of them.

1. By far my favorite from the Stones...
Trivia question: What is the female backup singer's name?

7. Indeed. One of the most famous background vocals in all of rock.
Perhaps *the* most famous.

3. So that's what the words are!
I always heard them as, "Oh, children, it's just a shout away, it's just a shout away."

8. Michael Hedges did a great cover of this song.
When I saw him in concert. It was a jaw-dropper.
My favorite Stones song too.
