Have you ever just been reading DU
Or anything else that requires viewing a light source for a period of time, and suddenly one or both of your eyes start to sting really bad and water? What causes that? I can barely see out of my right eye now. Ouch!

5. have you had your eyes checked?
I was getting that awhile back - after a few hours of working at the computer, my eyes would ache horribly.

Went to the optometrist - I just needed glasses. I'm farsighted, so I can actually see things very well up close, but doing so for any length of time was putting a horrible strain on my eyes.

Got glasses 12 years ago and never had a problem since.

It came on really suddenly, too. I'd worked at computers for years and years, and then all in one week, the pain and itching started up.

6. I'm extremely near sighted
and have astigmatism also. I get check ups regularly, but these glasses I'm wearing right now are over two years old because I mostly wear contacts. That's probably what's doing it.
