So I made a decision RE: work |
|
Okay when I was hired I agreed to a two year stint (Didn't sign a damn thing) But as much as I love my job, I dislike my situation. And I don't wanna spend two years of my 20s being unhappy. As well, today something happened at work that made me come to this decision. Anyway, instead of two years, in six months I will start looking for work again. Then I will have stayed a year. Now, I thought about it all, and I realized, I don't want to be in print for good, so what the fuck do I care if I shoot my self in the foot with a print company? If I find a job in radio, I should take it. What do you all think?

and then simply call them one day and say "I found a better job that's far more satisfying then what you can possibly provide me at this time. Because of this, I am terminating my employment effective immediately and will not in the future use you as a job reference. Goodbye."
Click.
I have *never* had respect for the "two week/month notice" thing, and I never will. NO employer of mine deserves that much respect.

2. Oh yeah, I will get a new job first |
|
But this IS a half decent company...I just also worry cause they fired a 12 year employee recently...so I think "Where's their loyalty?"

3. I'm sure they have little loyalty... |

But don't shoot yourself. Get a better job before you say goodbye, and be really, really nice when you leave, saying "I'm sorry, but most people don't ever get an opportunity like this, and as much as I LOVE this place, I must go.
I shot myself and burned bridges a couple of times when I was in my twenties, and there were people I listed on my employment applications who, if anyone ever called them, probably said, "Please don't put this in writing, but I'd never hire that ********."

4. Yeah plus, as I said - I have no desire to be unhappy |
|
I'm honestly very lonely here, I have no friends and nothing in common with co-workers or the town. My only saving grace is a few friends living 40 or so minutes up the road, and Vancouver being 2 1/2 hours away.

the rest of your life.... Explore; enjoy yourself and open up. I did a couple of years of small town radio/news and enjoyed it tremendously, however, I couldn't make a career of it. Wound up making a career with the state job service finding jobs for people. That wasn't bad but it certainly wasn't exactly what I expected to do with my degree in history...You do what you do. Hopefully, you enjoy it (or at least, aren't miserable).
Good luck, which ever direction you choose.
