your opinions please
At work in our cafeteria, we have a TV set to fox news. Only to fox news. In the year and a half I've worked there, I've never seen it on another channel. Because of this, I end up taking break at my desk most of the time, because I don't want to have to listen to it. I'm a little hesitant to bring this up to anyone, because I don't know what kind of reaction I'll get. Should I make this an issue? If its going to be set to news, why not a rotation of the networks? This has bugged me for some time but as time goes by it is now making me more and more angry. What do you all think... should I just keep avoiding the small cafeteria have breaks at my desk or should I bring this to someone's attention to try and change it?

1. Ask for it to be changed
Just say you want some variety: no need to bring your personal politics into the conversation. Good luck.

4. I've thought about that
but I would like to see the news, just not propaganda news. But seeing the Young and the Restless would be better than fox.

5. If you request CNN
that should be middle of the road enough for them, I suppose? Or what about requesting a local station - easy to say that you want to see local and regional news, not just national Fox news....

2. It's not even worth it. Ignore it or eat elsewhere.
I hated ALL TV when I was having lunch at work, but I put up with it or ate at my desk.

6. I am in Texas
but liberal Austin, and in a company I wouldn't expect to be biased. We are constantly bombarded with how we should respect others and tolerate differences. Should that apply to political opinions too? I think no one has ever brought this up, which is why I hesitate to do so. No one else seems bothered by it. I don't want to be the troublemaker.

all the old timer farts watch is FOX. Ther is no time they change the channel unless a ball game is on.
I quit going because I can't stand a room full of Republicans. Especially naked Republicans scratching their balls as they watch O'Really and Hannity.

8. Ask
Edited on Fri Jul-09-04 02:43 PM by histohoney
Just ask polietley if the channels can be roatated. There may be others thatwould like a change as well. If you keep this low keyed and present it calmly, I bet there won't be a problem. I also bet someone else has been thinking the same thing.
Hey from a fellow Texan.

10. you're probably right
If I don't make a big deal of this and just make a request, it won't end up a big deal. I'll just have to make sure to not go make my request after hearing some of their broadcast. That would be when I make a problem for myself.

12. Find a
quiet time and just write a quick friendly note.
I had one of the girls in my lab leave me a sticky note asking if we could please rotate the music in the lab.
I, as a supervisor, appreciated the note, I had no idea that the station was the same all the time. (I have my own radio on low in my office.) I called a quick meeting, my great people fixed out a rotation plan, no biggie. The lady that had it tuned to the C&W station had no idea that someone wanted a change, she had no problems with the idea.
Just keep it up beat and I bet all goes well, friend.

11. Look at it this way....
All the news in this country is biased and leaning to the right. When you see Fox news in the break room, at least you know what to expect. When watching CNN, one doesn't expect such a blatant slant in opinions and when it happens, it is evil! Besides, news while I'm eating would give me heartburn.

13. Just be like me

My bank has a "sitting room" and they had Fox News running when I went in a couple months ago. I was in there with an older gentlemen, a women and her kid. None of them appeared to care for the TV so I just got up and flip it to HeadlineNews

14. Here is what you do
Say, "Hey, anyone mind if I change the station?"

You may be suprised that no one else is particularly attached to the station. People tend to fall into ruts rather easily.

15. I just complained to my doctor's office about Fox "News".
I warned him that if my blood pressure was high that it was because of his choice in waiting room "entertainment".

He seemed puzzled that I didn't like fox. Looks like it's time to find a new doctor, this one must not be very bright.
