No such thing as a dog owner?

I was giving him a haircut last night, and while I had him on his back he fell asleep while I was grooming his belly. Snoring and everything!
Right now, he's by my chair, taking a catnap on his back, patiently wating for me to rub his tummy. When I come home, he will not leave me alone until I sit down with him and allow him to sniff around my head. Once he does this, all is good. If I'm rubbing his head, or stroking his back, and I stop before he wants me to stop, he will take his front paw and either start hitting my hand or my face with it. He lives for the words "go for a ride", and when we do, his head is out the windows constantly with a look of pure joy on his face.

Do I own him, or does he own me?

1. I can't disagree with you. We love our dog.
Sad, however. He only has three legs.

But, alas, little "Tripod" is an integral part of our family.

Last night he came approached a fire hydrant and just, er, fell right over.

2. We consider him part of our family
He's the closest thing that we have to a child right now and we pretty much treat him that way.

3. I'm jealous of my dog
I always liked George Carlin's question "What does a dog do on its day off?" It can't just lay there, that's its job!

7. I remember that

Barkley is a perfect example of the "Dogs don't know the concept of time" bit. I go out just to get something out of my car, or I can be gone for hours (thanks to a doggie door and a fenced in back yard) and his reaction is the same, "you're home! you're home! pick me up! pick me up!

5. nothing like a dog, is there?
they have absolute confidence that you love them -- and in turn you watch yourself turn to mush.
when sporty was alive and we were doing something special, like playing at the dog park, i was pretty sure that i was experiencing heaven on earth, or nirvana or something.
if your dog owns you -- enjoy it.

9. you and your dog are a "pack"
and you are the pack leader. No one owns dogs, they run with them.

11. You got it...Our dog is in our pack...
Michael and I are his older brothers, clumsy and slow. Our older neighbors, who baby-sat him during his puppyhood, are mom and dad, the alpha dogs. They also have two younger female dogs that he also allows in the pack-as long as they show him proper respect.

They are incredibly hierarchical. He's knows just where he fits in and what he can get away with.

12. Of course he owns you.
My Rottie is the most spoiled dog. If she doesn't get her own way, she jumps up and down and throws a tantrum until I give in. She is definitely the boss.
