Is a college-level basic computer science class difficult? |
|
I am very bad with math. Will this be an issue? I have to take another math, science, or computer science class to finish my degree.

1. Math isn't the problem. |
|
Logical thinking and a willingness to practice writing code is.
The key is - are you willing to spend a couple hours practicing (really, truly practicing, not logging onto DU! :) ) for every hour in class. If you do that, you should do fine. If you don't, success will be less likely.

2. An intro course shouldn't be too tough |
|
Most of the math will deal with numbering systems other than base 10 (typically base 2 and base 16). If you can handle that you'll be okay.

11. Hexacentrists aside... |
|
Any CS101 course should be pretty easy. Back in the day Pascal was the language of choice for intro level comp sci classes, but it's probably Java now.

4. Math is not the deciding factor... |
|
what is is critical thinking... using what you know to accomplish a task efficiently and effectively.
Logic skills are helpful too.
What is your degree (if I may ask).

8. most people I know majoring in a humanities... |
|
take a biology, astronomy or some other science or pre-calulus... Ive never heard of any of them taking a compy sci class.
But then again, if what I think graphic design is true... knowing a computer would be quite helpful.

I thought it may be helpful. I'm trying to avoid as much math as possible.

9. My daughter is a succesfull graphic designer and |
|
she does 90% of her work on the computer with a digital drawing tablet, photo shop, and 3d max. The computer is absolutely indispensible to artists in today's market.
FWIW: I used to teach first year undergrad intro level comp sci about 30 years ago. It's pretty easy, actually.
