Anybody here practice Alexander Technique? |
|
I was working for a music camp at my old college this week, and one of the concerts was this evening. I found an article written by my old piano teacher, who is a big fan of the Alexander Technique, so much so that he became a licensed teacher of it, and applies it to musicians. I was a student of his when he was just getting into it, and now he's really taken it to the next level.
The concept has always fascinated me, and I was thinking about getting into it again, since I've been thinking I should really practice a hell of a lot more than I do now (not at all). Anybody out there use it?

2. I've had Alexander sessions |
|
Wish I could have more. It's great for musicians, especially singers, and non-musicians as well.

3. I'd avoid it for singing. In my years of singing in and around NYC, |

I found that the singers I worked with who employed Alexander had the smallest and most tense voices going. It all sounded good on paper, but in practice, it sucked. Did it work for some? Maybe...I just never ran into them.
I don't know how it works for non-singing musicians.
