Dr Fate needs some morale help & positive vibes.
Subject: Dr Fate needs some morale help & positive vibes.
Message:
Hello DU friends...

I am having some serious problems w/ my life.

I failed my 1st year of law school. Guess when they notified me- yesterday, on my birthday. SOOO- I'm now stuck in a strange city with few prospects. The strain this is putting on my relationship with my girlfriend of 8 years is not helping.

On top of that, I seem to have some possibly serious health problems.Of course, I quit my job to go to school, so I have no insurance.

Like they say, when it rains, it pours.

I hate to start a pity post- but some some words of support/kindness from my DU pals would sure be nice. All prayers & positive vibes are appreciated.

Doc

Look at it this way: At least you didn't screw up a science project and end up with four mechanical arms fused to your spinal column! :pals:

4. Sorry to hear about your problems,
You can repeat the year, but the main thing to do is look after your health - find a free clinic to check out what's happening, most major hospitals offer them.
Take care, and keep on posting, we're here for you

Group hug :grouphug:

Sometimes life sucks. I pray that you will get through this successfully and use it as a source of strength later in life when you encounter other problems.

11. Hang in there Doc...
The Law School thing is unfortunate, but not insurmountable. On the other hand, the potential illness is something that should be attended to as soon as possible. I send you my very best wishes and hopes that you will get past this soon and will be able to look back at it with a smile in the near future. Be well and stay cool!

12. Well I hope you can get back on track at law school
But if you don't, it's not the end of the world. I just had to leave college because I couldn't hack it. My old employer took me back and I'm doing so well that I just bought a house. I would prefer not to have to do what I do for a living, but that's life I guess.

I agree with what another poster said about your health. See if you can find a free clinic. In my area they have a clinic that charges you on your ability to pay. If you have zero income there is no charge.

Good luck to you and you have many positive vibes headed your way.

15. I failed out of grad school
And had some health problems, too. It's not as bad as it feels right now. It opens up other dreams to pursue, and if you play it right, you'll look back on it as a good thing. Try the other thing you wanted to do-- write your novel, see the world, whatever law school was going to keep you from doing.

It's even a good time to decide what you and your girlfriend really want. She's as confused as you. Use the opportunity to either work out where you want to go together or move on with the deepest respect for each other.

Change only hurts for a little while. You already know all that, but when it hits you all at once, you lose the focus. Focus on where to go, and where you've been won't matter much.

17. We got to stick together
I had to turn to the board last week for some perspective. We all do it, and since this board is based on a common moral set of beliefs, it's a good group to rely on.

Good luck in it all.

18. If at first you don't succeed...
You know, Abraham Lincoln lost ten elections in his life.

Kerry, Duh-bya, and Clinton all lost elections for Congress. Clinton lost the 1980 governor's race.

Poppy lost a bid for the Repub Presidential nod in 1980 ten years after losing a race for the Senate.

Ronnie lost the 1976 Repub nod.

Carter lost the 1966 Democratic nod for Governor of Georgia.

Nixon and Johnson lost bids for the Presidency in 1960.

The list goes on. My advice: TRY AGAIN. But whatever you do, good luck.

19. Hey Fate, sometimes passing law school is worse for your health
than failing law school....it really WILL turn out.

And if you DO have a SERIOUS health problem with no insurance at least you ARE in California where you MAY be able to qualify for Medi-Cal.

You are right..when it rains it pours...but downpours often are followed by rainbows...if there is any way I can assist you, please let me know

26. Good Vibrations are yours...
The whole "this thing, too, shall pass" thing applies, also, but if there's one truth to hold on to it's that you never know what's next and that your good can come from anywhere.

Law school or not, new paths and opportunities present themselves at every turn, so just keep your eyes and mind open and be ready to roll. I'm in somewhat the same boat, so these aren't platitudes but actual, hardline realities. As bad as things can be, you've still got yourself, and that's quite an asset.

Don't hurry yourself. Take care of your health and give yourself time to see what's next. I know quite a few lawyers who wish they weren't, maybe it is fate's way of leading you to something better.
