I put away the badge yesterday--- ask me anything!
Edited on Sat Jul-10-04 04:02 PM by Cuban_Liberal
Yesterday was my last day with the Sheriff's Department; I got a nice send-off/going-away party, and the new Sheriff even baked the cake for it (she knows I like German chocolate)! In 3 years, my departmental record was as follows:

Civil process papers served: 346
Traffic citations issued: 1718
Misdemeanor arrests: 1053
Felony arrests: 441
DUI arrests: 295

Not a bad 3 years' work, if I say so myself...

:D

8. Sorry, I have mixed emotions about that.
We need more open minded officers, not fewer. On the other hand, it's a tough job and can be dangerous. Glad you got out in one piece.

Thanks for your hard work. Good luck in the future.

Almost all of us try very hard every single day to do the very best we know how, and a few f*ckups give us all a bad name; we dislike them just as much as you guys do, if not moreso.

Deer Accidents: 2

DUI Arrests: 1

Traffic?parking/Speeding Citations: 0

Misdemeanor Arrests; 1

My Dad and I got into it when my Mom had her first stroke and showed up to beat my ass into the ground at my residence 15 years after their divorce.

The DUI was from another state shortly after her death.

Let's discuss the Deer population among the Interstate Highway in my state.....

21. Uhhhh....
They do in Kentucky since farms line our Interstate/State Roads.

We drivers haven't hit a Kentucky Derby winner yet but we'll leave that to the Japanese. They've already converted a Derby Winner into "horsemeat" due to a lack of Viagra.

17. CL,
I too, thank you for your years of service. You say you are in law school. . .?

Once you get over the revelry of ending your service, I wonder, could you possibly share your thoughts on the current state of the judicial system, mandatory sentencing et al. . .?

It disheartens me greatly to know that our prison population is a higher percentage of our population than any other western country, that so many pass through a revolving door in and out of prison, and that there are so few incidents of rehabilatation.

Many moons ago, I met a reformed junkie from Denmark. He had been busted and was required to go into rehab and then help to rehabilitate teenagers who were struggling with the same issue he had confronted. He helped the kids to pay his dues and really had his head screwed on straight having had that experience. Since then, I've rarely thought that most victimless crimes couldn't be rectified through this sort of community service.

You probably just want to relax at this point, but when you have the time and the inclination, could you possibly share your thoughts on some of these issues.

And lay off the deer !

18. Yes, I start law school next month.
I have some definite thoughts about the travesty that is our criminal justice system, especially as it concerns mandatory sentencing, bail, etc. . I'd be happy to share them with you some time.

:)

30. Better record
A good friend of mine retired from a major city police dept. a couple of years ago.

Over a 25 year period, he made 3 arrests, one of which he couldn't get out of making.

He issued about 6 parking tickets per day.

Donuts eaten: thousands

He was always looking to help someone out. The best story, was the time he was called to a bar to get rid of a guy who was passed out.
Him and his partner carried the guy out and put him in the back seat and drove him home. They couldn't get him to stand up, so they carried him to his front door, and when his wife answered, she asked,
"Well, what did you do with his wheelchair?"
