What do people think about being watched?
I'm sure many of you already know this, but certain web sites have forums dedicated to taking posts from DU, reposting them and then making fun of the DU poster. That's always struck me as rather desperate, but I'm curious what other folks think of the practice. Do you like being "infamous" in certain circles?

1. I've seen the same thing done here
with posts from free republic dot com. Seems to be part of the "debate."

2. In a weird way, yes
It means we are saying things that are either funny or worthy of others' attention. If we were the only people reading our posts, then most of us would be preaching to the choir. Perhaps we will reach someone else this way.

Either that or we are all now on some fbi terrorist list.

3. No problem ....
what I post here is for public consumption. If someone wants to post it elsewhere and "make fun" of it, so be it.

4. Your thread title made me think of a Peter Sellers movie.
Being There.

He plays what APPEARS to be a mildly retarded man. In that movie, there is a scene where Shirley McClain is trying to seduce him as he watches TV. He's totally innocent of what is going on and proceeds to say, "I like to watch." (referring to the TV) She takes it as a sexual thing and it gets pretty silly...

Anyhow, about the idea of outsiders coming here to read--I guess I just kind of assumed it would be that way on ANY web site. DU, given the nature of our community, just draws folks from all over the spectrum. The gloaters and the shy fans are all welcome, as far as I'm concerned.

5. It's the risk one takes.
I'm secure enough within myself that if someone of an alternate political opinion wants to make fun of me or what I say, it doesn't really matter. That's their issue/problem/whatever, not mine.

I spose if you don't have an original thought... it is convenient to borrow someone elses.

Personally... I think they should find a better hobby.

7. Yeah, I agree.
It takes a lot of time and effort to try to subvert us and who are we really? Just ordinary people who happen to believe what we believe politically. We're not even necessarily cohesive amongst each other a lot of the time, but I'd like to think most of us respect each other. If they believe differently, they need to read, learn, and formulate their own arguments. I've seen one site that prides itself on mocking us or infiltrating us. Seems like a riduculous waste of time to me. If they want to debate, there are other arenas or websites for that purpose.

8. I don't give a flying fuck at a rolling bagel what those losers do to...
...my posts. They're a bunch of no-life geeks who can all go fuck their mothers! Hell, it's the only pussy any of them'll ever get.

I take it that answers your question?

9. Well
You are putting yourself out on the internet by posting here. Everything on the internet becomes public fuel and domain. It's a risk you take when you post your opinion on a message board. Anyone who thinks people are *always* (if EVER) going to use etiquette on the internet are mistaken, because a majority of people won't. You post your opinion or writing, you can expect critcism. It's natural. People will be immature and make fun, but it's a risk I'm willing to take for saying what I want.

14. As one who doesn't know about this,
are you talking about the FR place, or are there others?

I have noticed that sometimes when googling DU and the above mentioned site pop up from time to time.
