A head question (not a sex thread)
So I'm sitting here with a birch-shell floor tom (I have no idea who made it; it has no badges but the inside is unfinished and it's birch) that I bought used with trashed heads on it and two Remo heads--a hydraulic batter and a plain resonant. By the time I am done with this operation, I will be sitting here with a birch-shell floor tom that has two new heads on it.

As far as I know, I have three ways to head this drum so it will stay in tune:

a. Put the heads on, torque the living shit out of the lugs, go away for about a day, loosen the lugs, retorque them, let them sit for about a day, then tune the heads.

b. Put the heads on, adjust the lugs finger tight, press down in the middle of the head with the heel of my hand until I hear the cracking sounds, release, press, release, keep doing this until the cracking noises stop, then tune the heads.

or

c. Put the heads on, adjust the lugs finger tight, remove the feet from the drum, and sit right in the middle of the head. Ten minutes later, tune the drum.

Which do the other DU drummers prefer?
