Ruth's Chris Steak House ... Dupont Circle, Washington DC |
|
Oh. My. God. An absolutely flawless evening.
Quite possibly one of the finest meals I've ever had in my life! Excellent service. Attentive, not annoying. Our waiter made a point of addressing me in the formal 'Mr. Walden' whenever he spoke to me.
They tucked us away in a quiet cozy corner... not totally absent of wait-staff traffic, but far enough to the rear (upstairs) that we could have an intimate conversation. (And quiet enough that we could enjoy eavesdropping on bits and pieces of other conversations around us.)
Life should ALWAYS be like this.

I didn't mean to offend. I wasn't trying to sound like I was bragging... just sharing. It's been such a long time since we've treated ourselves to a 'jacket-n-tie' night out. It is SO nice to receive excellent, attentive and polite service for a change.

Their side dishes aren't that great IMO but the beef is hard to top...
Of course since Herr dumb ass took office, I haven't been there (because I haven't had the extra cash.)
I used to enjoy it now and then (way back when and idiot wasn't at the helm) :(
Can't we impeach that &^%$?

Australian Lobster Tail Broiled Tomato Asparagus (with Hollandaise Sauce) Garlic Mashed Potatoes Sautéed Mushrooms A Bottle Of Cabernet Sauvignon San Pellegrino Sparkling Mineral Water Warm Sourdough Bread Coffee (very rich, full, French press style)
Two of the finest hours of dining I can ever recall having. Not a bad early birthday present at all!!
On the Metro ride home, we were starting to figure out when we could go again. It's addictive... but definitely something that's a budget killer.

I've just been a jerk lately. They just opened a Ruth's Chris near me, in Chagrin Falls, OH. I should take Mrs. Beast Man there for our upcoming 1-year anniversary. It sounds good!

endorse it. That kept me away from the Ruth Chris Steak House here.
But I'm glad that the two of you had a great evening. :-)

14. Oh... Don't Let That Old Blowhard Keep You From Enjoying Life |
|
I knew it was going to be a special evening when I telephoned ahead for reservations.
Instead of a "Ruth's-Chris-Please-Hold-CLICK!" greeting... I was treated to. "Ruth's Chris Washington DC... Do you mind holding the line for about 30 seconds please?"
Normally I *do* mind... but when asked nicely, and when she waited for my reply before being put on hold (for LESS than 30 seconds) it was no bother at all.

Dupont Circle is about 4 blocks NE of there, and New Hampshire runs right into the circle.
Enjoy your visit!

As in an instrument? Band? Singing?
Or do you mean "play" as in frolicking, gleefully relaxing and/or partying?

Sounds like a perfect night. My husband and I go there occasionally, for birthdays, anniversaries and any old thing we feel like celebrating, when we can get a babysitter. His workplaces gives out RC gift cards every year around the holidays, too.
I love the steaks, but my absolute favorite thing there is one of their salads. I don't remember what it's called offhand, but it's two big slices of tomato topped with tons of blue cheese crumbles and a tangy dressing that I can't even begin to describe. And you're right, the service is excellent.

25. Did they charge you for your water & did you have a sauce on your steak? |
|
Did they put some type of sauce on the side for your steak and lobster tail?
I just made a baked potato after I ate my cold can of corn.
I am starved.

26. Yes, They Charged For The Sparkling Mineral Water. -- AND NO!!! |
|
The fillets were grilled with butter... NO SAUCE... just a dab of fresh ground pepper. They were delicious and juicy enough without anything extra.
Mike and I mused at whether we should tease our (adorable) waiter, Carlos by asking for a bottle of ketchup. We decided not to.
Lobster tails had an old-bay style seasoning on them also drizzled with butter (but I didn't have any extra melted butter for dipping.)

I love that place. The filet is almost always what I get. If you like cheese, try the broccoli au gratin or spinach au gratin. They're both amazing.
Glad you had such a fantastic time!

Mickey Mantle, David Justice, Evander Holifield, Brandy, Bobby Brown, Whitney - tons of others used to sneak to a back table and scarf down lobster and steak.
Even Frank Sinatra came in - a week before he died. hmmmm - Cholesterol Overdose?
