Would Anybody Hate These Kitchen Shelves (Deleting Cabinets)?
Edited on Sat Jul-10-04 11:27 PM by UTUSN
Suddenly the boring old cabinets in a very small kitchen had to GO! They were stolid, cramped, oppressive. These (with the doors off:

At the home merchandising store the salesman helped me locate the shelves and asked where I was going to put them, in the garage? I said, "Your wife would have a fit. I'm taking down the kitchen cabinets and putting these in the kitchen." He paused as the image floated in his mind, and said, "Yes, she would."

These give openness, let you see what you need for the grocery list at a glance, and, if looked at this way might be "art". Or would you kick the dude that did this out of the house?

4. Uh-oh. Is This Going to Be Unanimous?
But about things getting dirty, even with cabinets you wash each thing when you're going to use it, no? And mice/cabinets?????

5. somewhat depends on the area
and the overall level of dust, etc in your house. heat system, ventilation, landscaping, all that. but trust me, in my house, ugh.
good cabinets won't stop mice, but they will deter them.
been there done that. ugh.

3. You're gonna get kicked out
It's a great idea. But...the length is too long and too standardized. Put some shorter lengths under the long shelves, and something above - break up the long lines a bit.

Just my 2 cents.

6. Yeah, the Spaces Above and Below Need Some Filling-in
But the length in these pics is deceptive. This is a VERY small room. And there is some variation, the top shelves being 12" WIDE, while the bottoms are 16". But since I'm getting kicked out, ...

but I wouldn't have picked those shelves. I think they are more suited to a pantry than in the kitchen.

I hate to be piling on the criticism. I couldn't be mad at you for trying.

8. Who spends the most time in the kitchen?
Who cooks?
Who cleans up?
Can you see this from another room in the house?
Got life insurance?

Did you do the drywall and texture work yourself?
