1. He does sound like a phantom....
...especially on the very early stuff...

So does early Roy Acuff, in a different kind of way...

2. I dig Roy!
My late grandfather (and namesake) played golf with Roy's son. My paternal roots are located in the greater Nashville area, hotcha!

3. Golf must be huge in Nashville...
Edited on Sun Jul-11-04 08:13 PM by Dr Fate
...never been there- but I have an old Porter Wagoner LP that mentions his love of golf on the back. I also have a great "beardless" Wille Nelson LP called "Good times" with a great cover featuring Wille on a green w/ a model...

I know Webb Pierce & Faron Young were avid golfers as well...

4. it's a southern thing
I used to accompany my dad and granddad on the courses as a young lad, caddied for my dad and granddad when old enough, and got my first set of clubs at the age of 10. My memories of Tennessee would be remiss without it!

6. It could be a spoonful of diamonds...
could be a spoonful of gold
just a little spoon of your precious love satisfies my soul

a man lies about a little
some of 'em cries about a little
some of 'em dies about a little
EVERYTHING FIGHT ABOUT A SPOONFUL
THAT SPOON THAT SPOON THAT SPOONFUL

could be a spoonful of coffee
could be a spoonful of tea
but a little spoon of your precious love is good enough for me

repeat chorus

could be a spoonful of water
saved from the desert sand
but a litle spoon of little forty-five save you from another man

A man lies about that
some of 'em cries about that
some of 'em dies about that
EVERBODY FIGHTING ABOUT A SPOONFUL
A THAT SPOONFUL THAT SPOONFUL THAT

8. FUCK!
NO ONE SHOULD COVER THAT SONG. Except Gov't Mule... they did a GREAT live cover that a friend downloaded from Kaaza. They are brilliant with covers.

Makes me glad my radio exposure is so rare, as far as what you heard.

Btw, Ronnie Van Zant loved Howlin' Wolf... you can hear his influence in lots of Skynyrd. :D
