Questions for DU HTML experts re posting an uploaded image on DU
Edited on Mon Jul-12-04 12:49 PM by displacedtexan
This is a "Make your own" Doonesbury comic strip image...

Why does this work sometimes, but not always?

Why does the little box appear sometimes?

What's the correct procedure for pasting an uploaded pic to a DU post?

Here's the code supplied by Village Photo (I changed [] to <>):

<image width=425 height=747>http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-4/702245/
makeyourownwhcomicstripcopy.JPG</image>

1. Need the url
post the url without the http://www. and maybe we can figure out why it isn't showing up.

2. I uploaded the image at Village photos.
It worked fine when I posted it to my blog:
http://ascrivenerslament.blogspot.com/

But when I try to paste uploaded images to DU, I always get that stupid box next to the image.

Here's the code Village Photo told me to paste on message boards:

Here's the Village Photo page:

3. don't post the code
just hunt for the image url within that code, it should begin with http:// and only post that. It usually ends with .jpg or .gif.

Like here's the url for the picture below. To get the picture, I just put that part in with the http:// at the front of it.

6. I don't get it!
When I 'copy image location' and paste on DU from everywhere else, it works just fine.

I only have this weird, cheneying problem when I create a JPEG, upload it to Village Photo, and try to paste it to DU.

If you checked out my blog, you saw that it worked fine there, too.

I just don't get it!

Thanks for your patience!

10. I took out the image size code...
The 20% part wasn't in this code string, though. I have no idea where that came from.

But that stupid little box is still there!

12. The %20
Edited on Mon Jul-12-04 02:10 PM by sandnsea
That's what the browser or the url line puts in when there's a space that isn't generally supposed to be there. What is in your code before copy?

Okay, on this link I found a space between the 5 and the slash and that made it work. I think, I've only previewed it!

13. "Code before copy" might as well be "I before E."
I'm just too stupid!

Here's the code (sans brackets):

opening bracketimage width=425 height=747closing bracketopening bracket/imageclosing bracket

What just happened?

15. I don't know
Are we making any progress here?

What I meant by code before copy, what is the exact letter or symbol before the word copy. Where the %20 keeps showing up. Maybe a space got in there that wasn't supposed to be there but it was also the other space that was causing problems?
