Poll question: if you could keep a large, wild animal safely...
What would you like to have roaming around the back yard? It would be happy and well-cared for, and wouldn't hurt you.

2. I chose elephant...
but I'd like to have several animals ... elephants, gorillas or other non human primates, tigers, lions, giraffes..

but only if they are healthy, happy, and have sufficient room to roam and some good eats (not each other!).

32. Elephants CAN be kept safely.
As long as you have lots of land, there is more than one, and you have lots of love for these gentle creatures. They are my favorite animals. Such sweet, beautiful beasts.

Equador or Peru or sub-sahara Africa....I'd want them to never feel caged or feel in captivity and have their native habitat, but it sure would cool to lie in bed at night and hear their roars and calls...

12. I LOVE lions.
Edited on Mon Jul-12-04 01:47 PM by fudge stripe cookays
He could lay around in the sun in the backyard, and I even have a brand new watering hole for him (although I would go through a lot of pond patch, as lion claws would puncture that lining lickety split!)

Lions always look so leisurely, and (with no danger guaranteed) I'd dig laying up against one and snuggling in their furry mane for awhile.

I'm not sure where I'd find a couple extra wildebeests around here for him to eat, but I"m sure we'd figure out something. Raw meat would work pretty well, and they have lots of that at the Piggly Wiggly.

Can you tell I'm a Leo? :7

Love your description...

PS: Forget the Wildebeest snacks....Republicans make excellent feed and there's a big supply...unfortunately, they cause massive ulcers and reflux, but atleast it would bring balance back to the eco system..

16. Buffalo!
I've always wanted a couple of Buffalo for the back yard. Of course, the yard would have to be at least a few acres of prarie grass. That would be so cool.

keeps a couple of buffalo. I was driving down this rural road one day and there were two buffalo right beside me!

Honestly, I don't know how they fare in this heat. Seriously though, without that big shaggy mane, they aren't THAT big. A little larger than your average bull.

I love those animals! How come you never see them on the Discovery Channel shows? It's always the lions, lions, lions. Giraffes are the Jan Brady of the wild kingdom.

22. For me, it would be a real toss between
a tiger or a gorilla/chimp/other higher primate; I love them both and have always been fascinated with them. If I had college to do over again, I'd have majored in anthropology and done field work with primates, probably gorillas or chimps.

I've kept lots of different species, both wild and domestic, but nothing quite so large as what's listed here. Yet. It's a future dream of mine. :)

the concept of captivity makes me sad...

When a wild animal is captured it loses its spirit...

30. No doubt an elephant
They're my favorite animals. They are big, beautiful, intelligent, nuturing beasts.

I have elephant stuff all over my room, on the walls. I love watching specials on TV about these lovely creatures.

Their only drawback is that they're the symbol of the GOP but not the elephants I love.

Those elephants that the GOP raises are clones and not really offically elephants so I can still continue my love of the land giants!

31. I voted giraffe, but
I'd prefer that they were just wandering around free, and not kept as a pet. I've got lots of trees in my yard which could use pruning.
