Does anyone else own a Dell?
Edited on Mon Jul-12-04 03:12 PM by VoteDemocratic2004
I own a Dell notebook computer and if i shut it off it doesn't come back on unless I unplug everything and reinstall everything.

It sounds like something is loose inside the computer because I swear I hear something broken off and moving around when I move it.
It's never been dropped and I have owned it for less then a year.

I have no idea what is wrong with it and when i called customer service it sounded like i was speaking to someone in another country and they said that they would get back to me on my warranty and that's been at least 4 weeks ago.

1. I have a dell notebook and have it has a few quirks
but nothing like that. I hate calling Dell for service questions because I am on hold for F*ING FOREVER but I would call them back about the warranty. That is definetely not right.

4. The friendly Indians at tech support are waiting for your call.
If you can understand them and get them to understand you, they usually know what they are talking about.

5. Mine is fairly new
and it totally quit this weekend, I could not ever even get the welcome screen. I ended up having to zero(?) it and install XP from scratch. It sort of worked but not totally so I called support and for once the guy I got to help me (from India he said) was wonderful. It took a while but he even called me back to make sure everything was OK and helped me put the drivers in. I told him I didn't need help with that but he would not hang up until I got it right. I called around 10:30PM Central time, it was 9:30 AM there. His name was Andy, very nice guy. It was the only time I have had really good service.

9. Mine is an Inspiron 5100.
Nothing is moving around inside of it. Yours sounds broken. I had a Compaq before this and the power source broke off inside and it required an entire motherboard to replace it, hence the Dell. I hope yours is OK but it doesn't sound good.

10. Never Never Again

Owned a Dell lap top.

Always something wrong and the wait time was terrible.
There is no store in my area so customers are truly at their mercy.
I would have to mail the computer back to them and wait for 2,3 weeks to get my computer back. I was spending a fortune hiring a Techie in the area to fix it for me.

Now I have a Sony PC which I love and a warranty. If something happens I know that I can go up to Circuit City and turn the place out!

I am sick of trying to talk to technicians in another country.
I don't mean it in a horrible way but when you call Technical Support you want to communicate with a person who speaks the English language. The last time I called a Tech Support, I worked for 2 minutes to make sure that the "B" was not heard as "D." We went back and forth and back and forth. It was frustrating for both of us.

11. Hell no, I build my own damned computers...
No mysteryware, or built in adware, just lean and fast machine. I'll even build a damned laptop if I could. Quick get me a butane lighter and some sterling silverware or goldware, forks are perferable.

12. Call Customer Support Again
I had to have them send a tech out to work on mine. He couldn't get the thing working but did discover a loose screw that might have caused an internal short.

Dell shipped out another one and I sent the broken one back in the same carton pre-paid.
