What Was the FIRST Car You Ever Owned?
We ask this from time to time - it's interesting to see what people started out driving.

My first car was a 1958 Hillman Minx that I bought in 1970 for $80. It looked like the one in the background in the picture below, only mine was red with a white top.

It was white with red vinyl seats. I used that car to take my date to the Senior Prom in 1971, after my Hillman died.

I called it my "Blue Wonder" being it had been torn down, rebuilt and in about 50 accidents. Sold it for a nice amount of $ and bought a 1982 Toyota Corolla. I liked the VW better I must admit.

the two door with trunk. 3 speed Automatic. Manual Steering and brakes. Flu-shit brown with a torn tan vinyl half roof. Went almost 55 on the highway but shook like it had Parkinson's disease.

Bumped it into a giant Chrysler, bent the hood and cracked the fiberglass facia.

Totalled.

This is actually a 78, but not much difference, and it's the same color.

What a hunk of junk. I named him Aloysius. HE finally gave out in 1987 in Deont, and mom traded him in and bought me an AWESOME 85 Nissan Stanza with power windows, power sunroof, killer stereo system, the works. Aloysius was not mourned, sad to say.

You know, I've read that "Chevrolet" is actually French for "piece of shit."

About a '53, I think. Paid $400 for it in 1960 and sold it 3 years later for the same price.
I think it got about 100 mpg, or almost.;-)
It was the only one on the campus of the U. of Ala. and attracted a lot of attention.

of course that was in 1977. I bought it for $100.00 from a guy my step dad worked with. I had to cover the engine with a blanket on cold winter nights if I wanted it to start in the morning. but It still was a cool car.

American Motors' answer to the pony car phenom, this was the hot-rod version of the Javelin. 390 V-8, no back seat, nearly impossible to beat on the straightaways but utterly useless in corners due to the fact that it was totally front-heavy. Nearly killed myself in that thing on several occasions.

Like that but with more doors...

With the sunroof all the way back, you could easily get some ~weird~ looks while traveling down the highway at 65 mph with everyone in the car standing right up through the roof wearing sunglasses and keeping perfectly straight faces.

I remember it like it was yesterday - a 1964 Chevy Impala - paid $200 for it when it was 10 years old. Drove it till it fell apart...
409-cu. in. V-8 developing 425 bhp at 6000 rpm, a 11:1 compression ratio, dual 4-barrel carburetors. Ahhhh the good old days.

Now they want $20,000 for a referb of it....who knew?
