What Was The BEST Car You Ever Owned?
For me, it has to be my wife's '93 Plymouth Sundance two-door hatchback. We bought it new a month after we got married. It's got 107,000 miles on it. So far I've replaced the battery a few times, gave it a few tuneups, had the front disc pads replaced at 60,000 miles, and had the trans rebuilt at 103,000 miles.

All in all, it's been a very dependable ride. And very roomy inside. And downright cute!

This picture is a '93 Duster, which was a Sundance with a V6. Ours looks a lot like this, but with a 4-cyl engine and without the spoiler and the hood bulge.

1. Still own it!
1990 Mazda Protege'. Bought it new in '90. Only 76,000 miles. Because of short driving distances and Wisconsin salt regimes, we replace mufflers and tail pipes constantly. (every other year).

A ball-joint pin rusted in half a month ago but otherwise it's been a great car. 40+ mpg on the highway..'bout 33 in town.(joys of manual transmission 5-speed)

2. 1974 Volvo 245
Went up the Alcan highway, took us to the hospital for both our sons births, totally dependable. Totaled in an accident in 1985. Front end at 55mph. They came at the car with the jaws of life thing and my husband opened the door and walked away from it.

3. 93 Saturn SL1
It had 143,000 miles on it when I sold it. Replaced the clutch once at about 110,000 miles and did basic maintenance - brakes, muffler, catalytic converter once.

I have about a 70 mile round trip - and just felt it was time. Sold it to a friend for his daughter - has about 170,000 on it right now with no major failures.

It was the last car I owned that didn't have 3 or 4 recalls on it.

4. My '93 Honda Accord coupe.
Still going strong (on the original clutch) at 106,000 miles when I got in a wreck and totalled it.

My current car, a '94 Infiniti G20, is a GREAT car, too.

9. BMW 325e
Nearly as much fun to drive as sex. Bought it used & drove off the lot feeling like I just stole my old mans ride.

Traded it for a new Dodge Neon which is almost as much fun as the BMW, but smaller. Did Cali 1/101 in it last year and scrubbed those goodyear tires HARD.

12. 1977 Buick Regal
Not the most fuel efficient ride, but a beauty. Really smooth handling and that classic "floaty" suspension characteristic of those heavy-bodied 70's cars.

14. 1981 Subaru DL wagon
That car was FANTASTIC! More than once, in the '90s she would break down and I would literally fix her with duct tape.

When I took her in for repairs and would think, "hmmm... A new alternator should be around $180" It would be $160. It was ALWAYS cheaper to fix than I expected.

I loved that car and cried when she got totaled by a drunk driver. She was just sitting there minding her own business. He plowed into her going 60 and walked away with a bruise on his forehead, the bastard.

As long as you don't live in cold climates where the salt in the road causes Subarot, Subarus run forever if you get the oil changed regularly. Fabulous cars.

15. I have 2
One belongs to my In-Laws company, it's a 1984 or so (nobody remembers the exact year) White Toyota Pick-up that is about to turn over the SECOND time. It's a hoopty but we love it, it's held together with duck tape, rope, wire and prayer. That truck is still used for deliveries!

The second car was mine in high school, a 1967 Pontiac, sea green. That baby was a BOAT. That car could hold almost the entire class (OK I only had 25 people in my class). We called it the SS Trotter and every one would hum the theme to the "Love Boat" when ever they saw it.
It cost me a grand total of $100.00 and I loved it.

16. 1984 VW Rabbit GTI
The last year that they built it with tuned exhaust... sounded like a Triumph Spitfire on steroids, and cornered like it was on rails. I treated it like a pickup truck, hauling band equipment all over San Diego county, and at 125,000 miles it was still running strong.

21. I've had two.
A '68 VW that had 109,000 miles on it when it bit the dust. I now have a '94 Chevy S10 pickup with almost 100,000 miles and still going strong!! 28 mpg even with the a/c running. Not too bad for a 4-banger.

24. My first car

55 Ford convertible. It had the gear shift on the wheel. I thought I was a real big shot when I drove it with the top down. I loved this car--

Now we have a 1991 Chevy Cavalier. It is still going strong with more than 150,000 miles on it. Just some repairs needed to some rust areas in order to pass inspection. We do mot have a garage, so it sits outside all winter--and has never failed to start up in any winter. We had a wicked cold winter last--our pipes froze--but the car started. It gets about 30 miles to the gallon.

1982 Subaru 1600DL. With 220K miles on it. I bought it 10 years ago for $1,200. It's had a couple of clutches and radiators, but otherwise, it runs like a dream.

28. 1965 Impala Super Sport

Mine was black on black, Corvette 327 V8 with a 2-speed automatic and a 4:11 posi rearend. Body and interior were bone stock, but it moved pretty well for a huge car.

It got wasted by a drunk driver. I was lucky to not get hurt too badly...

29. My brand new, powder blue MGB.
It was my first car and did I love that baby!

Unfortunately, while I was in the hospital delivering my second child, my husband sold it Ñ without even asking me or discussing it with me. (He was shortly thereafter, my ex-husband!)

He drove up to the hospital in a new 1967 Saab, which quickly turned into the worst car I've ever had. What a junker.

31. The one I have now. 1996 Ford Ranger. 183,000 miles and the 4 cylinder
engine has had nothing done to it. I did have to spring for some new universal joints and a clutch at about 180,000 miles. But I am not complaining. I may even spring for a rebuilt engine when the time comes. This baby could run forever if nobody smashes into me.
