Most idiotic talking point your have heard in a conversation with cons? |
|
I was talking with one of my Con friends this weekend and I was astounded by his reasoning. The conversation started out by his knocking of how Kerry is out of touch because he is worth $500 million and how he could never vote for someone like that who didn't earn his money. To which I pointed out the Bush* millions as well and it is all through inheritance, and family connections.
Here is where I was awed with their logic. He told me that Bush's money is legitimate and more respectable because it is inherited.
I guess I forgot how respectable inherited money is.

1. Not really a talking point, but |
|
When I hear the words, "But what about when Clinton...", I tune out immediately. I have an older brother who I barely speak to now, and that is what every single conversation we have about politics degenerates into eventually. I refuse to waste my time on BS arguments such as those :grr:

2. My favorite was the fundie person who told me that Jesus said.... |
|
..."Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he'll eat for a lifetime".
To which I pointed out, Jesus said no such thing, that it is a quote of unknown origin and not attributed to the bible at all and that indeed, Jesus FED the people with the miracle of loaves and fishes, he didn't teach them how to fish.
He got all red in the face and said something like "Well, He Should have said it!!!".
Laughing in someone's face isn't polite, but it was certainly appropriate at that point.

3. "Well, at least there haven't been any more terror attacks |
|
Since 9/11, so Bush must be doin' somthing right!"
Freeper logic insist that if it doesn' happen in the USofA, then it doesn't happen.
As far as the Bush Family Fortune, Freeper's should be reminded how Grandpoppy made some of those millions. You know, doing business protecting Nazi banks during the 40's....

during a conversation about job security (which he have only a tenuous grasp on at the moment, and how much it costs to live)....
"Maybe I'll just quit everything and sell the house and cars and live in a trailer on Welfare and let you pay for my lifestyle of leisure. Would you like that? If I was one of the scum who abused the system? Taking your money..."
I replied "well, since the vast majority of people on welfare need the aid, I'm happy to give. Besides, your percentage would probably come out to 1 millionth of a percent of what I give in taxes anyway, so it wouldn't really bother me. It doesn't now. For every person that abuses the system there are a hundred kids who don't go hungry and have a place to sleep, so I think it's a fair trade. Don't you? Besides, if we lost our gig, and the tech economy stays to shitty... I tend to think both of us would prefer subsisting on welfare to panhandling to feed our kids."
he responded...
"I just don't like paying for other people to be lazy."
The whole salient point of my argument went RIGHT over his head.

5. It was during the recount |
|
There was a small group of freepers (most of them paid) at one end of the block, and a much larger group of us Gore supporters at the other end of the block, and one freeper yelled something about how only Democrats support draft dodgers for President.
So I yelled back "Yes! We need more Vietnam Vets like Al Gore in the White House!" And our group started chanting "More Vietnam Vets in the White House!"
The freeper got annoyed and shouted back that Bill Clinton was a draft dodger. I yelled back that obviously he hadn't noticed that Bill Clinton wasn't running and would be out of the White House one way or another in January, so he should relax. And our group resumed chanting about "More Vietnam Vets in the White House! Al Gore in the White House!"
This got him even madder, so he turned purple and yelled "TED KENNEDY IS AN ALCOHOLIC!!!"
So I yelled back "GREAT!!! GIVE HIM A JOB IN BUSH'S CABINET!!! HE'LL FIT RIGHT IN!!!"
And we started laughing and chanting "Put Ted Kennedy in Bush's cabinet!"
And the guy stomped off in a rage.
Sad, sad little man.

6. I take it back, even more idiotic than that |
|
Still during the recount - - I was wearing a Gore button, riding in an elevator at work. A guy in his early 50s got in, took one look at my button and said "You really think Bush stole Florida?" I told him yes, and explained all the illegal crap that had gone on in Florida.
The guy laughed derisively and said "So? Kennedy stole Illinois."
