Update on Phink, the cat-stroke victim...
In last week's episode... Dookus finds a neighborhood cat twitching in his driveway. After the seizure, Phink (the kitty) is limp and seemingly paralyzed. The vets run every test available to find out what's wrong.... no results. After ruling out everything else, the remaining cause is an embolism leading to a stroke.

Cut to today....

The little guy is walking. He can stand up on his own feet. His right front leg is still sorta gimpy, but he can get around. He's learned to lean against the wall for support. He's using a litter box. He can climb up on the bed and get down.

He's Phink, the wonder kitty! He's the Patricia Neal of kittiedom.

1. That's great Dookus! I am so happy for you.
Our little friends are really resilient sometimes and I am glad to hear he is doing a bit better, and I wouldn't be surprised if he got even a bit better as he relearns how to do some of the old stuff.

:)

3. I am so happy to hear this
I told all of my cats about Phink and I have been holding good thoughts for him. I can't say that my cats have, as they tend to generally be rather selfish and only care if they get their morning can. :D But I've been thinking of both of you. And I'm so glad to hear that that precious little guy is doing better.

Thank you so much for taking care of him.

7. I can't take much credit...

I'm just the baby-sitter. My next door neighbors, who have about 15 cats, have been doing the hard work. It's like a cat hospice over there - half their cats are ancient, and each one is on a different medical regimen.

In fact, I'm a lousy babysitter. I took him on Sunday for a few hours, and was sitting with him in the back yard. Then all of a sudden, he flopped his way with great alacrity under the porch, then scurried into the crawlspace under my house. He sat there for 5 hours.

Eventually he came out and we caught him. He enjoyed himself immensely - I think he wanted a break from all the man-handling.

But the neighbors do all the dirty work. He's been getting daily baths because he's not so good at pooping. But he just peed on me, so I guess that's worth a merit badge.

5. Yay!!!
Good to hear it. There's a reason why they say cats have 9 lives. Give him lots of hugs and yummy treats! (Just out of curiosity, what if any medications is he taking?)

6. Hooray!
They do respond to the love!

One of my cats once was so sick that a vet gave her an intramuscular shot of something to help. When I brought her home, the leg where she got the shot would collapse. I think he hit the nerve or something.

She immediately went to the wall for support as she made her way down the hall to "her room." As time went on, her hip improved and she didn't need the wall, and then she was running and jumping again.

Aren't they amazing?!?!

9. Yes, they are...
I remember my old girl, Polly, who developed diabetes in her old age. She would show up every day at the same time for her shot. She never complained, and she was a rather fussy cat.

12. I have to give my 18 year old subcutaneous fluids every other day
She sits perfectly still while I jab a needle under her skin and sits quietly while the fluid accumulates under her skin. Sometimes she even purrs and cuddles up against me through the whole thing.

I am just amazed at how much the cat will allow me to do to her - - especially since she still tries to fight off the vet, who basically does nothing but gently feel the cat all over 90% of the time.

I used to give Polly sub-q fluids all the time, and she just sat there and took it without complaint.
