A call to arms (pun intended)
Hi, all!

For those of you who have been here at DU for a while, you have probably peeked into the Justice/Public Safety (J/PS) forum and most people promptly evacuate the premesis because of the heated flame wars that occur down there, and never return.

The gun issue is one which I think the Democratic party has received a lot of bad press for and we need to grab that bull by the horns and change it.

Personally, I would like to see more people, other than the dozen or so regulars who post there, start to post more and become more involved in the gun debate.

So, please come down and join in on the fun. This is an area in which the Democratic party should change the public perception and it starts with people like us.

Brian

4. While I understand your idea,
I guess I don't get how you think we can change the public perception with more flame wars. Is it that you want the public to see that not all Dems are anti-gun? I think most people know that already.

Personally, I do feel that it is occasionally interesting to drop by JPS and, infrequently, post something. So I'll come by again, when I'm feeling feisty  . But hell, even the Lounge can be nasty, I'm not sure if I'm up for that!

:hi:

5. I just know
people over at gunbroker and similar sites stop by and just look at the infighting in J/PS and remark on how it fits every stereotype of what is percieved as an "anti-gun democratic agenda."

It requires an individual effort to maintain civility in any discussion, and that's all I'm asking for in J/PS, along with new fresh posters to stop in and get involved in the discussions.

Whatcha think?

6. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Civility in a gun discussion--that's a good one! ;)

I do appreciate what you're asking... but I don't think it's going to have the intended results, that's all I'm saying. Obviously, there are lots of Dems who are pro-gun. There are also many who are anti-gun. And then there are those of us in the middle.

I think those people at gunbroker and such sites should be happy that we dems aren't all in agreement re. guns. I could be wrong, but don't gun owners tend to be more libertarian in their views? Wouldn't they PREFER a party to not have a strong agenda, rather than one that rams its own beliefs down peoples' throats? The fact that we have a gun dungeon where there is debate on both sides of the issue--that should make pro-gun-rights people happy and comfortable with the Democratic party.

Of course, I could be totally wrong.

7. A sampling from gunbroker.com
"Why do we need politicians?
Can't the people actually elect folks to do their wishes? Why do politicians always take our rights away for our best interests without our consent?
Why the heck was the 3-wheeler banned? Man I loved them damn things."

On drilling in the ANWR:
"no,we just took over iraq how about using theres for rembersment"
"Drill for oil, and drill the caribou.
I'm not particular."
"What? We are not there yet?
Just to see the look on those environmental tree hugging Green Peace jerks, I would glady send down the first section pipe myself."

8. Too funny...
The RKBA crowd is down in the gun dungeon spreading slurs about Chuck Schumer, Barbara Boxer, Hillary Clinton, etc...and cheering such figures as Orrin Hatch, Ted Nugent and Linda Cchazez.

12. This is Dean's fault
Get an A rating from the NRA and all of the gun nuts come out of the woodwork.

Listen, the second amendment does not give you the right to have whatever gun you want, whenever you want it, wherever you want it.
It is called no absolute rights.
End of discussion.

Next topic.

This thread is a call for people to join us in J/PS and discuss the issue. If you wish to discuss it further, please do so down there.

You don't want people to discuss the issue...you want to pretend that pointing out the sort of rubbish you post is "flaming"...

Maybe you shouldn't have opened the ball if you don't like to dance.

I want MORE people to join us in J/PS. Shit, out of 31,000 DUers, only about a dozen post there with any frequency.

"out of 31,000 DUers, only about a dozen post there with any frequency."
Perhaps the rest don't much feel like reading what the Washington Times and Newsmax have to say....

22. Aw, let's have just one more bump
to point out that the RKBA crowd is currently celebrating a blind guy who shot somebody (two different threads)!

And that they also started a thread featuring a guy who's proud of being part of Free Republic bitching about "Bowling For Columbine". To add to the hilarity, an RKBA enthusiast brought in an article from WorldNetDaily to defend this freeper author.
