Have any DUer's recently had dentures? |
|
I am going in for the first step (the impression) tomorrow. I'll be getting what is called immediate dentures. Has anyone here had experience with these? I am a bit nervous about this. I know that it needs to be done, I have had 12 root canals in hopes of saving my natural teeth, but it is hopeless. She said I just have bad teeth genes. Any advice or stories (horror or otherwise) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Artie

1. Im getting two partials this week |
|
After a long illness, too many meds....I lost 5 teeth and a partial is my only reasonable answer right now. Im 54 and my dentist would not do dentures....Forget teeth...how are your gums and bones?

2. Gums and bones are fine.... |
|
She suggested a full upper and partial lower. I would rather have them all gone. I have lost a total of 11 teeth. Thanks for the input.

4. I wonder if I can get two sets..... |
|
One normal, the other filed down to points. That would scare the Jehovah Witnesses away from my door!

5. Hey, great idea. They could come in handy for loads of situations. |

I don't have dentures but my mom does and she now makes them for a living. The only piece of advice I've heard her give to people who ask is that you wear them every day, all day. She even wears hers to bed. They may cause some discomfort at first but they will get comfortable relatively quickly if you keep them in your mouth. If there are points that continue to be irritable, that can be fixed by your dentist.
If you don't wear them, problems can arise besides the fact that they will never get comfortable. One of the big problems that stems from not wearing them, apparently, is a change in the shape of your gum or loss of gum material. Our teeth are constantly shifting and pushing against each other. It is the pressure from opposition and other teeth that keep them all in line. That's why when one or two fall out, the others shift out of line. The dentures help hold the shape of your gum and keep the gum tissue built up, just like your real teeth did. If your gums change, you need new dentures as the old ones will no longer fit.

for the experienced advise. I too have heard about leaving them on all the time. Sounds like a great idea to me. Less adjustment time and all of that.
