Just threw it on, but here's the countdown so far:

#40: BEACH BABY, First Class
#39: TIME FOR LIVIN', Sly & The Family Stone
#38: LET'S PUT IT ALL TOGETHER, The Stylistics

1. Where do you get something like that?
Man, I'd LOVE to hear some of those shows from the early 80's again. When I was in Jr. High and High School I tuned in to his show religiously every week. And then popular music went to hell....

7. A buddy of mine who worked in radio in the late '70s and into the '80s...
...has about three dozen original vinyl copies of those shows that he took home from a radio stattion he worked at back then. Once the shows aired, the station no longer needed them and would've just tossed them out.

My friend is in the process of using my computer (he doesn't have one) to transfer those shows to CD. So far, he's done six of them: one each from 1974, 1975, 1977, 1979, 1983, and 1985. Next, he plans to convert the first A.T. 40 show ever aired, on July 4th weekend of 1970. That one should be interesting!

They were host of a local college radio show. Once, they played a 45-minute album of dee shnider making motorcycle sounds

My Dad used to load us all up in the car, and we would go for a drive every Sunday and sing along to the Top 40. Yes, I pretty much grew up in the Partridge Family.

6. Quoting Homer Simpson.....
...."Who needs anymore new bands? Rock and Roll achieved a state of perfection in 1974. It's a known scientific fact."

9. by any chance, is Carl Douglas's "Kung Fu Fighting" on there too?
I just saw "City of God" yesterday and there was a major scene in the movie in which that song is playing in the background. But I considered that song to be a true classic long before seeing that movie.

10. Indeed - a true classic
Always thought that '74 produced an inordinate number of cool and groovy songs.
