I did...

The thing is, I was being passed like I was standing still, yet I was the unlucky victim. Guess the cop had something against Honda Civics.

First ticket in 13 years...

1. How did the cop determine you were speeding?
If it was radar, and you were surrounded by other cars, there is no way that he can determine which car the radar was reading.

If it was by tailing you, and other cars were passing you, then it is selective enforcement.

We need more specifics to beat this one.

3. I was in the middle lane...
he was on the shoulder on the far left. Cars were passing me in the left lane.

4. Just out of curiosity - any liberal bumper stickers on your car?
 There was a thread to that effect yesterday, I think.

6. Fight it
If there was plenty of traffic, and it was all passing you, you can argue that you were mistaken for one of the speeders.

8. Much of the time
speeding tickets involve selective enforcement because they can't possible stop and tickets all the cars that are speeding along.

But if other cars were passing you, and you were the one stopped, it sounds like the officer may have goofed. Of course, if you really were speeding, just not as fast as the others, then it was because you were easier to stop.

I'm lucky in that I've never been caught speeding. Mainly because I try not to speed where I'm likely to get caught, and so far (been driving just about exactly 40 years now) it's worked. And I drive a boring Mom car (Subaru wagon) which probably helps.
