Hush hush, keep it down now, voices carry.
(now it's stuck in my head)

I'm in the dark, I'd like to read his mind
But I'm frightened of the things I might find
Oh, there must be something he's thinking of
to tear him away-a-ay
When I tell him that I'm falling in love
why does he say-a-ay
Hush hush, keep it down now, voices carry
Hush hush, keep it down now, voices carry
Uh-ah
I try so hard not to get upset
Because I know all the trouble I'll get
Oh, he tells me tears are something to hide
and something to fear-eh-eh
And I try so hard to keep it inside
so no one can hear
Hush hush, keep it down now, voices carry
Hush hush, keep it down now, voices carry
Hush hush, keep it down now, voices carry
Uh-ah
Oh!
He wants me, but only part of the time
He wants me, if he can keep me in line
Hush hush, keep it down now, voices carry
Hush hush, keep it down now, voices carry
Hush hush, shut up now, voices carry
Hush hush, keep it down now, voices carry
Hush hush, darling, she might overhear
Hush, hush - voices carry
He said shut up - he said shut up
Oh God can't you keep it down
Voices carry
Hush hush, voices carry

2. Okay, something that always bugged me
About the video clip for this song, not the song itself...

It's fairly clear that the lyrics are about a man and a woman having an affair. The lyrics really don't make much sense, otherwise. So whatever possessed the person who made the video for this song to leave this rather important plot point out of the video?

This was back in the early, 'anything goes' days of music video clips, so it's not like infidelity was something that couldn't have been addressed in a video. The video is beautifully shot, it's one of the better ones from back around that time ... but it's not the story of the song.

Oh, well -- just curious if it ever bothered anybody else.

3. I miss that video
I haven't seen it since the 80s. I remember the cheesy dialogue.

"why can't you for once do something for me?" "Like what?"

5. I used to rant about what I posted above
Back in the '80s... they show it once in a while on VH-1 Classic channel, or at least they have lately, so now my second husband has to hear me go on about why the damned vid doesn't match the song lyrics, too. I'm sure he's thrilled!

7. It never bugged me, but most videos never made sense.
I still love that pan out shot in the theater at the end.

6. I always wanted to cover that, but none of my bands were ever game.
Aimee Mann is so freakin' great.
