They convicted the S.O.B.!
Last January I was dispatched to an 'animal call' at a local mobile-home park. When I arrived, the complainant told me that she had witnessed a man kick a 4 month-old rat terrier puppy "like a football" and pointed me to the trailer where this occurred. I knocked, and a man answering the general description answered the door. On the couch behind him, I could see a rat terrier puppy not moving, so I quickly told him why I was there and asked if I could come in and check the dog. He let me in.

This poor little puppy was barely breathing and was whimpering as I examined it. I asked the man if he had hit or kicked the dog, and he said that he had. At that point, another deputy arrived, and I arrested the man for felony animal cruelty; the other deputy took the puppy to a veterinarian, but it died the next afternoon from internal injuries. Fast forward to today...

I was called to testify in the man's jury trial this afternoon, and did so. Since I'm currently somewhat unemployed, I stuck around to see if the jury would reach a verdict, and after only 20 minutes deliberation, they did: "GUILTY!" Judge Flannel refused his attorney's request that the defendant/convict remain free on bail, and remanded him to the custody of the Sheriff to await sentencing on August 25th.

It won't bring the puppy back, but this is the first case in our county where someone was charged with felony animal cruelty, and I hope what happened today sends a powerful message to al those depraved monsters who abuse animals.

I felt damned proud to have had a hand in it.

I think someone should kick this guy like a football, so he knows how it feels.

Bastard. I'm glad he was convicted. Cheers to you and the judge and jury.

36. You are inspiration for me to do more
It's amazing sometimes how much people actually do with their time.

I am involved in a few things besides work but I want to do more, make life more fulfilling.

My sister and I are going to volunteer for the Kerry-Edwards campaign here in Connecticut and also try to help our local representatives get elected.

I started by becoming a member of the Kerry-Edwards website and there were dates for a few events in my local area.

They each pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and disobeying a lawful order from a police officer; they received $500 fines and 40 hours of community service.

12. Thank you
I'm an investigator for a major SPCA and one of my issues is the response we sometimes get from "real cops". It's more common in urban areas than rural areas but we sometimes get officers declining to attend on our search warrants in order to keep the peace.

Keepimg the peace can mean dealing with anything from obnoxious subjects to knives.

It's nice to see that you give those "animal calls" the same attention as B&E's and traffic tickets.

Thanx again
Doug

31. Good news for once but
sadly up here in the North Bay of California we have our own animal cruelty problems what with Shopper the sea lion being shot in the head at a vineyard in St. Helena last week and just this afternoon a lady called to report that someone had left 3, 5 gallon cans on the highway in front of their house over the 4th of July weekend. The husband went to work and came back to find the cans still there so he opens them up and finds 17 cats/kittens stuffed in. They called the Humane Society and she had to take them there but the cats could not be saved. She was near tears and I was too, it's so horrid. Why couldn't the person who did this at least take the lid off! It's beyond my understanding why someone does things like this. I can't stand it. I'm so glad that man you mentioned was thrown in jail. I only hope we can find out who did these other killings up here. My happy summer day is ruined right now.

That's great news. It's so sad about that poor puppy. That pathetic excuse of a human being deserves jail. There seems to be a trend cracking down on cruelty to animals, and I am all for it. He and everyone he knows will think twice before harming animals again.
