Macho guys with guns just couldn't resist the chance to kill a tiger. They can tell their grand kids about it.

18. According to eyewitness |
|
the tiger was asleep under some bushes (shrubs?) for most of the afternoon, and ran away from animal control trying to roust him from his resting place. The officer who shot and killed him just happened to be in the path of where the big cat was running. But the eyewitness was the owner, who could be biased.

4. Here in CA a bear came down from the mtns |
|
and 14 cops stood on the back of a flatbed truck and fired several rounds. I wondered at the time too "where's your stupid tranquilizer guns?" If they would have left it alone it would have gone back where it came from. I feel sad about Bobo also - and we say we're prepared for an emergency. yeah, right.

The tranquillizer team hadn't arrived, was "nearly there". Tranks also take time to work. I was on a cougar call a couple of years ago. The cougar was treed in a city. The Conservation Officer shot the dart, the cougar exploded out of the tree, along streets, across a major artery (imagine the looks on the faces of the morning commuters) and into the river valley. It was finally tracked by the police K9 unit which found it unconscious in a thicket.
A tiger is a much larger, much more dangerous beast. I'm not saying they were right to shoot it, I'm saying we don't know.
BTW I was on a call with police to a drug house when I was nearly taken down by what looked like a cross between a Rottweiler and a Grizzly Bear. The cops shot the dog and I'm glad they did.

13. It's exciting, yes but it's sad, angry and funny. |

People say I don't know how you do that". There are 2 ways to go. It can get to you, or you can say to them (and feel it in your heart) that there's all this shit going on. Anyone with a brain realizes that. I'm one of the people given the privilege of making some of it stop. Sniff. I still get emotional about it. It's the best, most rewarding, most challenging job I've ever had. I'm currently the livestock specialist, but today, due to vacations, training, sickness I was out doing dog calls. It was the first time I'd seized a dog in 3 years. A couple of weeks ago I got to inspect elephants. It's always new, always different, usually rewarding.
Yesterday it was cattle, tomorrow it's cattle. Variety is the spice of life.

Bear in mind that the presence of the camera changes everything. People, no matter how noble their intentions, play to the camera. The legality of hauling a camera crew around with you is also somewhat murky.

that the tranquilizer bunch was on its way.
Actually I feel it probably was a case of fear. How, if armed, would any of us react to a 600 pound angry wild animal? I don't think animals like that should be in the private possession of eccentric individuals.
Don't blame the police for being afraid. How often have these guy encountered this situation.

The tranquilizer crew should have been there from the outset.
They had ample notification.

Shoot him with a tranquilizer and stand around and wait for it to knock him out -- I heard 20 minutes it would take.
If you wanna feel sorry for BoBo feel sorry that he was kept as a pet.
