2. I thought I was the only one disturbed by the theft of the 2000 election
no one else seemed to care; I finally searched on the internet, found something William Pitt wrote and heaved a huge sigh of relief. I got a link to the DU from him too.

that I liked to read. It was all down hill from there. I quickly became a DU addict. Just goes to show what can happen when you go reading all them peacenik, commie web sites.

8. Combination of blind luck and Al Franken's "Lies"
I read that book and my eyes were opened. I was not the most politically aware person at that point (and I've got a l-o-n-g way to go). I didn't know who Karl Rove was. I didn't know who Wolfowitz was. Then I wanted to know more. DU came up in a Google search...probably on Rove, but I don't remember what I was looking for. I just hung out for a week or two, read the posts, and then jumped in.

And the BEST part of it is the only reason I had any interest in the book at all (other than being an SNL fan) was the ruckus Fox and O'Reilly stirred up over the title. I was "one of them"...I was lured by the headlines and hype surrounding its release.

12. I was addicted to an anti-war forum at RIT
but the Republicans kept hacking it and putting nasty porn on it so they shut it down.

I was going through withdrawal (like with cocaine) and searched google and found this place! I read for a few months to see what it was like, then went ahead and registered last fall.

I wanted to get rid of Bush and stop the war. I only got political because of this douche-bag in chief.

13. The ramp-up to the invasion was making me nuts
I was attending the local peace marches (September 2002) but for all the reportage by the "news" media I would have thought we were the only place on the planet protesting, and I only knew about us because I was there!

MaRadix told me several times to check out DU for better information on the resistance movement -- and I finally did.

It does help to know I'm not alone in this.

15. First time I came?
I think that is a very personal question for a board on politics.
I was watching Crossfire and was enjoying Bobby Novac Frothing at the mouth, when it became clear, I would have to go and investigate any group that would cause such enthusiasm. Thank you Bobby, I have enjoyed my years of lurking and even the joy of commenting from time to time. Grey

Saw the banner on MSNBC with Skinner & Earl G. Jan.20th 2001...signed on Jan. 22nd...liked what the guys were trying to do,making a difference for the Democratic Party with a online message board.
I hung around to helped make the place grow. And boy it has with alot of good DUers' giving alot of themselves...to get organize and win in November 2004. The goal getting rid of Bush and the corruption that has stolen our last election!

This election is the most important election in our lifetime, putting a Democrat back in the white house is the only way to save our democracy!

And the greatest benefits of DU is the friendships we make...

25. Let's hope for a different kind of Inaugural
Who would have guessed on that fateful day that Bush would turn out to be the worst President in the history of the Republic, and that thousands of people would end up dead, wounded, and maimed for the sake of Bush's faith-based policies.

Hi Crew!:loveya:

Ron and Fez was a radio show which I heard on WNEW a few years ago.

28. not sure exactly how I got here but it was mentioned on blog
I had found Dean site and blog and started reading there, then from there found dailykos....and others....I had been going to alternet.org for my news for several years.... but still felt isolated in my opinions.

I felt strongly before bush got in that he would create war and he did in the first 100 days.

The week of 911, I had seen an article in the local free paper by the ice cream guy. He had said the government was looking for an enemy because it was building up a big armed force budget. The paper came out on 911. So the article was written before.

I tried to find the article and eventually found it on alternet.org. It had been written sept 4. This article and the timing of 911 made me feel that bushCo had something to do with 911. I thought I could not possibly tell anyone I felt that. This is how I found alternet.org.

Then I started to feel Bush and what was happening reminded me of early Germany before the genocide. And I still believe this.

So on one of those sites, DU was mentioned. I came here and started posting right away. It was like a dam broke. All that pent up resentment toward the election, toward the unecessary war, toward feeling that 911 was planned with our guys in full knowledge, and I had never blogged before this year.

Bush has driven me into politics in a way I have never been before. I would vote but not as knowledgable I feel now.

I get all my news via DU now. I know if there is something happening, it is posted here.

The biggest thing is it has helped my anger although sometimes I think it fuels my anger. I have written more letters/email to my congress people and others since being here. I have called congress. I also know my congress people in Virginia are not for the people. They vote totally opposite what I would want them to do.

I hope some day, I can write long flowing articles like William Pitt. In the meantime, I throw out short comments or like this rolling, rambling opinion pieces that help me get my words out somewhere.

I have become addicted to DU. I was away a few days and the first thing I did when I returned is hop on DU.

in hopes to get away from listening to Rush and have something else to occupy me with. I found you guys in July of 2003, joined when I returned to California, then changed my sn in December. I love it here and I'm almost glad Rush forced me into a frenzy of finding liberal stuff lol
