Museum To Pay Its Electric Bills Using Visitor's Excrement
<snip>

BRITAIN'S Science Museum says it is considering a radical way of paying its hefty energy bills - using visitors' excrement.

The London museum said it was considering taking the waste from its 14 toilet blocks and converting it into electricity.

"With free admission it would be a great way for visitors to give something back to the museum and help keep the overheads down," museum's head Jon Tucker said.

"We have almost three million visitors each year and have huge electricity bills."

1. First thought on seeing headline...
How do you fit it in the envelope?

2nd thought...
How do you get the electric company to take it as payment?

San Diego Gouge and Extort would never go for that!

3. If they know how to do this
why aren't they mass-producing the system and selling it to every office building in London?

Or every chicken farm in the world? It may not seem like a major problem from where you're sitting, but the world really is drowning in chickenshit. (Honest!)

There's an outfit that claims to have a system where they can cook organic waste down to flammable hydrocarbons, mineral ash, and water. They built a pilot plant in Philadelphia (I think-- might be Pittsburgh) dealing with municipal waste, and apparently it worked well enough that they engineered a deal to build a bigger version just to serve a turkey processor someplace in the midwest. But that information is a year old already, and I can't find anything on the web to indicate that the new plant is up and running, so I wonder if it's an eco-scam :-(
