Just a guess - "I, Robot"
I'm a big Asimov fan and I've seen the trailer for "I, Robot" and it doesn't look anything like Asimov's stories but I could be wrong.

I'm going to be irritated if I'm right though. I'll see it tommorrow and they better not pinch Philip K. Dick and make the Will Smith character a robot himself.

1. I would rather rub my eyes with lime
I grew up reading Asimov. To have his work shit on by a hack like Will Smith is infuriating.

11. Will Smith wrote the movie/screenplay too?
He's a one-act fellow and hilarious in "Fresh Prince", but otherwise he's so-so.

Now he's (re)writing sci-fi books?!

3. First copy of the poster said "based on the novel"
The second version of the poster read "SUGGESTED by the novels of Isaac Aasimov."

4. I'm not a Asimov fan, but you have my sympathies

I'm a PKD fan and they've yet to make a movie that was close to his original work. Blade Runner was close, but still....

I'm sad to see one of my favorite directors involved with "I, Robot". Goyer's "Dark City" is a classic!

8. Are you nuts?
Did you see Minority Report? Paycheck?

I'll have you know that they kept several of the character's names in those movies...

(sarcasm mode: off)

10. I've heard that there's a good South American version of
"Confessions of a Crap Artist", but I've yet to see it.

5. I agree.
Doesn't even look like the story it was based on.

Tisk, tisk, tisk. What did ya expect from Hollywood? They always do that...

6. Wait a sec.!
I read that the movie got a few choice digs in:

"And speaking of remembering things, is it possible that the filmmakers have slipped in a few political jibes against the Bush administration? The villain at the center of all this makes comments about protection against the enemy and forcing society to suffer a little loss in liberty; and it seems that the good robots are sort of bluish, while the evil robots are, you guessed it, red."

7. Well, I won't be seeing it
The ads, hell, the mere idea of this treatment of such a classic makes me a bit ill. I already am grieving and have PMS. Seeing this could just push me right over the edge.

9. It looks absolutely ridiculous
The book was great; it was, in essence, a mystery. That's it, with a little AI warning stuff in it. This looks like Jurassic Park with robots.

13. I'm off to see it in a little while.
I think I may have read the book when I was a kid, but I don't remember anything from it. That's lucky for me, because otherwise I am sure I would be comparing it to the book and hating it.

That's probably the main reason why I couldn't stand the LOTR movies, (I hope I didn't just commit sacrelige).

14. I think the movie looks GREAT (no sarcasm)
i think it looks cool. Robots, guns, car chases. What more could you ask for for a two-hour diversion, a purely escapist, shoot-em-up, good time?

So it has nothing to do with the book? So what? It never claimed to have anything to do with the book. They just stole the title, which is a good title, and applied it to an action movie. They in NO WAY screwed up Aasimov's work, simply because they weren't making a movie of Aasimov's work. It's an actio movie that happens to contain robots and plagarized a title. Big deal.
