Why do DU'ers become apathetic?
A little over a week after the breaking news of children being detained and/or held as enemy combatants and being tortured/abused in Iraqi prisons, any more posting I've done seems to meet with apathy or critical cynicism. Why is that? Do poeple give up so easily in the face of the overwhelming US MEdia Whore dismissal of any type of objective news reporting? Or is this really how DU'ers will respond in the end with apathy and/or cynicism the end result?

Thanks for listening to me rant.

8. Am just feeling weird
that what is such a horrendous allegation re: kids in Iraqi prisons seems to have lost its edge in getting people fired up to get the US media to report it.
Am all for the DU'ers here...have always been a great group of peoplewho have already made a difference during these last three years of US Bush Regime.
Guess I am disappointed that there is not more outrage over the report that rights groups have been denied access to chidlren being held as detainees and/or enemy combatants. The fact of the matter that the rights groups have been denied access means there really are children in Iraq who may have or are being abused or tortured through directives at the hand of the US military ir hired personnel.

2. Dude, the bush regime has done so many bad things and...

the media has overlooked/ignored so much....

Nothing gets to me anymore...

It's like you could tell me Faux news has footage of Cheney raping box turtles, but decided not to show it, and I would think that's normal.

4. Du'ers serious?
I try to have serious conversations once a month on DU and am disgusted sometimes because there are many here that are too flippant. I was advised and hassled to just go find a more serious forum than DU. Turned my husband off so he stopped posting. Sorry you have experienced so much apathy. I have been out of touch in another state with little electrical and internet service (NW Iowa) and with my son in hospital before that. Just saw Fahrenheit 9/11 tonight so I am definitely feeling non-apathetic. Talk to me.

12. What can we say???
I'm beyond outraged. I've cried, screamed and thought really, REALLY bad thoughts. Sometimes things are so horrific there are no words, so you agonize in silence.

If this is what 'America' has come to--raping children and then turning a blind eye to it, then we are doomed. I've told people about these stories, and you know what? They don't give a fuck. In a sense, we are worse than the Nazi's. The German people didn't have half of the knowledge and material abundance we do, and still, our citizens go to another country and rape, slaughter and torture, all the while laughing about it. They are Us. And some of the perpetrators are going to come home, and don't think they aren't going to keep on raping children, or torturing and shooting up people they view as sub-human. Frankly, I'm about at my limit. I goddamn can't take anymore.
