Husband and I were talking about this. You can't even read the news without getting angry. The other day was the topper of all toppers when I found out about the sodimizing of boys in Abu Ghraib. He came home and told me, I already knew but burst into tears. Angry tears. Don't know what to tell you except you aren't alone. We're going to see F 9-11 this afternoon so I guess I should prepare for more anger although I expect it will be preaching to the choir in our case. It might be a good idea to take a few days off of politics and enjoy something unrelated to get your sanity back. The world won't explode without you. (Well, maybe it will! But everyone needs a break.)

6. It isn't about politics |
|
I've learned to cope with my anger about politics thanks to some timely advice from Will Pitt. This is anger in my personal life and I'm lousy at dealing with that.

8. I was angry at a relative for a long time |
|
The guy used to be a real asshole. He'd fly off the handle for the least little reason and it was always another relative he did that to. Especially female relatives. He'd never really bitch at the guys and he tended to be abusive when no men were present. Just women and children. Well they finally got tired of this and started putting him in his place, especially my sister. When he would start in on them they would dish it back out not taking any shit off him. The guy obviously had problems because he could be laughing and having a good time one minute and then turn into an asshole the next minute. He would also go through bouts of depression when he'd drink and not show up for work for days and have flights of mania where he'd need hardly any sleep and go on spending sprees that got him heavily into credit card debt. After experiencing some mental problems myself and reading up on them, the guy looked to be a classic case of bipolar disorder. He's now getting the help he needs and he's mellowed a lot.
I only confronted him one time about his anger. And the man broke down and started crying. It was pathetic. I think he new he was wrong, but just didn't have any way to control himself.

12. Well, I went to the gym... |

and took my first ever step aerobics class hoping it would exhaust me. It did. I had a little epiphany about my situation but it didn't "fix" things. Now I'm tired and angry.

13. Endorphins, Velma, get the endorphins going! |
|
They give you a natural feeling of peace and tranquility. You get them from exercise...even just a good walk. You get them from doing something you really love to do...painting, playing your favorite music, watching a beautiful sunset.
Anger robs you of air and energy. When you are angry, the object of your anger has won. There are two old sayings :"Don't get mad, get even" and "What goes around comes around." To me, "getting even" means living a better, happier life than the person I'm angry at. And I have seen "what goes around..." happen in real life. It may take some tine, but it usually happens.
Of course, the other solution is to let the person you are angry at know...many times that is the best course of action. It's amazing how often the person you are angry at doesn't even know what he/she has done. :-)

15. I've been trying to let the person know... |
|
I'm angry and why but emails apparently aren't doing trick and he won't pick up the freakin' phone. It's quite frustrating because I don't normally tell people when I'm angry. I have a history of holding it all in. And I'm trying to change that so I'm all psyched up to deal with this openly for once and the other person involved has just disappeared on me.

There's nothing like hitting the road on the old bike or the trail for a long, uphill hike to chill me out and get me back to base. It smooths things out: anger, nervousness, anxiety. It allows me to focus, to find my way through to some peace of mind.
Well, most of the time, anyway.
Salud!

and I'm highly tempted to let you virtually beat him up for me. But frankly he doesn't completely deserve all the anger I'm directing at him right now. He's catching a lot of excess rage because he's pushing a big button left over from my evil ex (who is the one who really really deserves to be beaten to a pulp).
But thanks for offering. *smooch*

He does deserve some of my anger right now. I just know I wouldn't be half so angry as I am if it wasn't for the fact that he's engaging in behavior that reminds me of the things that made me crazy about the ex.
It's pitiful. I just want him to call or email or even just respond in this thread so we can talk about it and maybe get it worked out.
