Poll question: Would you date somebody who smoked weed? |
|
Not the plantlife you pull up from your gardens, but marijuana. You know, MJ, hash, maryjane (not the chick from the spiderman movies so please don't go there), and so on?

If they smoked weed in the past but quit since then I wouldn't hold it against them, but if they were still a user I would say no. I just don't trust people who are near dependent on a drug that fucks with your mind. I'll respect someone for who they are, and if you're a weed smoker but you're cool I'll respect you and all, but I wouldn't trust you with anything serious like parenting, and trust is the main necessity in a relationship. Respect can't survive without trust in a relationship.

8. That's a slightly different scenario |
|
Edited on Sat Jul-17-04 04:00 PM by noahmijo
Overall no I don't trust someone that is again near dependent on alchohol, however, bringing alchohol into my house is legal where bringing pot in is not. That's one thing that is key right there.
As it stands someone who smokes pot by our laws (how fucked up they are) is committing an illegal act and risking themselves and those around them of citations, arrests, ect, and is someone who holds little regard for the consequences of their actions to themselves and others around them. It's similar to someone who drinks and drives.
Were pot to be legalized then I'd hold it to the same standards as I hold alchohol (you're trustworthy if you're not a chronic user)

|
The reason I asked is because in your posts you state the ill-effects of drug use and the resulting lack of responsibility. And that you would have a hard time trusting that person if they abused (which, I believe is sensible self-preservation).
But, why if it were legal you'd say yes, but the fact that its illegal makes you say no? It seems like your deferring your own judgement to that of the laws.

Seriously, I can see noahmijo's point about the damaging effects of substance abuse, but casting that wide net over all tokers is farfetched. Not to mention trusting law makers to dictate what morality we should follow.

36. Discreet pot use is low risk |
|
Maybe, this isn't the place to post tips for not getting caught smoking pot, but smoking pot in a private home is a low risk illegal activity by itself. Yes, many people are incarcarated for possessing pot, usually large amounts and/or being stupid about using or having it. Police usually don't go knocking on doors looking for small amounts of pot though.

"but I wouldn't trust you with anything serious like parenting"
I've smoked weed for 30 years and I've raised 2 outstanding kids. That is such an asinine thing to say.....you ought to worry a lot more about parents who booze it up; I guarantee more children have been victimized by drunk parents than parents who smoke weed.
Stop buying into the "anti-drug" commercials.

Stop assuming if someone seems to hold a different opinion than you are that they simply "buy into commercials" and don't have personal experiences that have assisted in shaping one's opinion on the matter.

You can be of the opinion that the moon is made of green cheese, but that doesn't make it so.
If you wish to post these type of opinions, expect people who have a different life experiences to challenge your unfounded opinion.

The people you know who steal your money to buy pot are bad people. I smoke pot and I have never stolen a thing. I have plenty of friends who smoke and none of them have stolen anything from me or my friends. Maybe it's the people you hang out with...
I'd be interested in hearing about these viloent tendencies. Again, something NONE of my friends and I portray.

Indeed. Why would a user make a mention of it, honestly, in a personals ad for all to see? If they wanted to hide their use of the plant, they wouldn't make a mention of it openly.

47. So my husband and I shouldn't have children because we smoke? |
|
Despite the fact that we are both responsible, caring individuals? I'm trusted enough by my community to volunteer with children 20+ hours per week. I don't know what kind of experiences you have had with marijuana users to make you think that they can't be trusted as parents, but I think you'd be surprised to find out just how many people actually do smoke and lead very normal lives-including people who are parents. My 52 year old mother-in-law has smoked pot for close to 30 years, and she raised a wonderful son.

10. Well, my husband smokes |
|
He didn't before we got married and my best friend introduced both of us to it. Now, he smokes a lot more than I do, which sometimes concerns me. There is nothing wrong with smoking pot in itself as it usually leaves the user sociable, coherent, in a good mood, and is not very damaging to their health. There are somethings you might want to consider though, especially if you don't smoke or plan to. How often does this person smoke? Is it a main activity or expense in their life? Do most of their friends smoke? Would you feel left out if you went with them to a friend's house and everyone else lighted up? Does your perspective SO respect your decision not to smoke? Will he pressure you or feel uncomfortable that you don't partake? Is he risking his job by smoking? How would you feel if he lost his job because of smoking or failed to get another job because of it? I am not stereotyping anyone but these are things that you should ask and consider before you get serious. I also recommend asking similiar question if you find yourself with an alcohol drinker or other drug user. Marijuana is probably one of the least harmful drugs that people use recreationally, but you don't want it to be a problem in your relationship.

I used to smoke in college, every couple of weeks or so (pretty much everyone I hung out with did the same). I don't use anymore, but I don't hold it against people if they choose to.
Someone who was a chronic user, probably not. I had a few friends who were always high, and damn, they got annoying.

If she's "got to have it" every day, then I doubt I'd start things up. If we were already "in love" or what have you, I'd do what I could to help her. In the end, it depends on how the use affects the relationship, which, well, would take a few volumes to go into the possible scenarios there.

Seriously, I've had a couple girlfriends who would have benefited from smoking pot. The relationship would have been better. I don't use it but I have dated women who smoke and it doesn't bother me. Cigarettes smokers I have issues with. Pot doesn't bother my asthma like cigarettes do. I'd rather date a pot smoker than a cigarette smoker any day.
