How long before the Poker fad dies?
I predicting that Poker will cease to be trendy within two years.

How 'bout the rest of you?

1. I wasn't aware it was trendy
Of course, I have been playing for 20 years, and you tend not to notice when others latch on.

2. Yep
There's a nationwide Texas Hold 'em craze.

They've even got Celebrity Poker Challenge TV show, where lots of B and C list stars play for their favorite charity.

4. I never cared for Texas Hold 'Em
Just a straight 5 card draw, or 7 card stud with maybe the ace in the hole splitting the pot. Maybe.

3. I hear the professional gamblers don't mind.
The more idiots that think they can win a tournament, the more dead money the pros get to collect.

Nevertheless, this fad might not go away soon. Hold 'em is easy to play, therefore any average Joe schmuck can play and pretend he's some uber poker champ with his buddies.

5. Hopefully not until I've won half my money back
Seriously though, to those who truly like poker, it will never die!

6. I jumped on the bandwagon after "Rounders"...
...still one of my all-time favorite flicks, so the "fad" has been a pleasant surprise.

7. Part of its new-found popularity
is that anyone can come in as a beginner at a tournament and walk out as a winner. I hear the current contest structure actually encourages this.

10. I loved Rounders and I love to watch people play poker. I watched
an group of people play Omaha, didn't like that game as well. I am starting to get to know the players, Phil Ivey, Jesus, Ming the Master, Devil Fish. They kill me.

12. I learned poker from science fiction conventions

It used to be that pre-90's you could walk into any Con and find a game in the hospitality suit. I used to spend more time playing poker than I did going to con events. The games still go on, but they're a bit more...quiet about them. (At least that was my experience in the 90's in the midwest.)
