Sex-toy charge against Texas woman dropped

CLEBURNE, Texas (AP) — An obscenity charge has been dropped against a woman who received nationwide attention when she was arrested for selling two sex toys to undercover police officers posing as a couple.

A judge dismissed the case against Joanne Webb, Johnson County Attorney Bill Moore said Friday in a statement. He said he asked the judge for the dismissal to prevent wasting county resources, but didn't say when the dismissal occurred.

Webb, a former fifth-grade teacher, started selling erotic toys and other adult products last year. The Passion Parties Inc. consultant hosts what she calls Tupperware-type parties for suburban housewives who feel more comfortable buying marital aids in a private home than at an adult bookstore or on the Internet.

Webb was arrested Nov. 13, about a month after the undercover officers approached her at her husband's business in Burleson, about 10 miles south of Fort Worth, and bought two products. Had she been convicted of violating Texas' obscenity law, she could have been sentenced to a year in jail.

22. Glad this was dropped there was a story about this many months

ago on one of the news channels....this lady was doing parties...like tupperware, and longerberger baskets...but with these 'adult toys' for women....since women would not go to the places that normally sell these things....this was a way in the privacy of homes for women to see and know about them...to use with their partners/male ....

this is like victoria secret...being big for the clothes or lack of them....just another sensation....bringing 'fredricks of hollywood' into the suburban wife's home.....

It was a viable way for her to make a living.... seemed she had lost her job or something and found this and was finally able to support herself... or something...

I don't have the statute, but I was told the law was that a person couldn't be in possession of six or more dildoes, because then the assumption would be that they were in the business of selling them.

One for personal use was okay.

Texas drug stores sell vibrators but the package says it's for backs or whatever. Not anything more salacious than "sore backs."

So, the workaround was to not CALL them sex toys.
