The question is wouldn't mama be proud?
There's a silver lining in the corporate cloud
And the pretty pose that you're taking as
As an emcee, oh, of the great pretender
I should sure think so

Wouldn't mama be proud?

Pretty decent NYTimes article about Elliott's new album coming out in October.

Discuss.

2. He never really got the coverage he deserved....
I only had 'Figure 8' and very little was written about him here in the UK. Fine musician, what a terrible way to go.

Didn't he die in the same month as Johnny Cash? What a pisser, two talents snuffed out at the same time, and yet Celine Dion still walks among us.

There is no God.

3. hear, hear...
do you think his girlfriend stabbed him? they were reporting it as suicide at first, but I was like...who stabs themselves in the chest?? I don't think he killed himself. I refuse to believe it.

his music was the soundtrack for some sad times in my life. strangely comforting and always wistful.

4. Yeah, wrists are the more traditional option....
I can't even take a band-aid off my leg without wincing, let alone drive a knife into my chest.

Of course, there is always the chance that he was twatted off his tits.....

I'm right with you on the comfort factor. Got me through many long dark nights.

6. Beautiful image, isn't it?
We've all been there, it's just that very few of us have attempted to internalise our heavy duty cutlery afterwards.

Eat strange food, yes.
Have ill-advised one-night stands, yes.
Make Slipperduke-kebab, erm no.

Poor chap, I think I'll have a look on the world wide interweb, see if I can figure out what happened.

7. The case sounds sort of strange, yeah.

But I don't know...it's all just too sad.

My favorite album of his is "Either/Or."

Did you ever see him in concert? When I was 16 I saw him play at the college here... that was 6 years ago when he was on his "Good Will Hunting" fame kick. I stood right up front next to the stage and he even humored a request from me. ("Big Nothing" - the ultimate teenage angst ballad, no?)

It was incredible...I was a huge fan at the time.

8. oh you're so lucky.
i never got to see him, but a friend got an autographed copy of "son of sam" for me. he sent it to me with a yellow post-it that said, "wanna trade?" it says, "to susanna. (heart) elliott." i don't think i've ever been so thrilled with a gift.

11. On second thought, I really think she did it.

Did you read the autopsy report? It was REALLY weird. Is it still under investigation?
I hope so.
