Got busted for 75 in a 55 on Interstate 35 in Austin.

Schmuck in an SUV was pacing me, and refused to let me over so I could exit. So I surprised them and sped up right quick, enuff to get over, and then slowed back to 60. Wouldn't ya know a schmuck in a blue hat and a radar gun nailed me.
150 bucks down the toilet!

20. Last Ticket I Beat

Bought a used car from a private owner. He hadn't gotten the thing inspected in some time. This was in 2001. The inspection sticker was from 1999.

I was driving it home. It was a Sunday. I intended to get it registered and inspected the next day, because you can't do that on Sundays.

schmuck in a blue hat pulled me over. I offered to show him the paperwork, that I'd just bought the car, and queried...don't I get some time to take care of this stuff?

He refused to look at the paperwork, told me I could show it to the judge.

So I did.

By then, I'd gotten it registered and inspected...and within the five days allowed by Texas law. Case dismissed. But I still had to pay a "court administration fee" of ten bucks to get it dropped...and I hadn't even done anything illegal. Extortionists!!

More and more news publications are putting up registration pages. Whenever I encounter such a page, I create an account that you are all welcome to share. It's either:

Login: dailykos
Password: dailykos

or if the login is an email address, then

Login: [e-mail]
Password: dailykos

Many of you have already created accounts at sites all over the place. I have gotten into many a newspaper using those passwords even though I hadn't create the account.

But if you run across a site that doesn't have a "dailykos" account setup, do us all the favor of setting up such an account. It'll make our web surfing efforts much more efficient and enjoyable.
