" Have a nice day." A sign of a somewhat more civil society - |
|
I've been noticing the phrase a lot on DU messages, in context suggesting it's meant as a curt dismissal. For a while I found the sarcasm annoying (not being a New Yorker), but I guess I'm mellowing - it's a lot better than "Go Cheney yourself!" Perhaps we're moving more towards civility.

3. I wonder if we are telling someone to have a nice day or hoping they do |
|
I hope you have a nice day! or Hey, you work real hard at having a nice day.
My wife and I say to each other as we go to work, "have a day"

I tell him to have a nice day when he is getting ready to leave. He says "I don't want to, don't tell me what to do"
